Witcher 4 - Dont mess it up! Listen to us!

+
My first thought is and advice.

1. Geralt not playable as main character - (with Doug Cockle Voice) (btw any noticed how even Henry Cavill imiates Doug Cockle Voice tone)
Epic Fail! and no new face over. The character you created and refined thru the 3 Witcher Games. IS the real Geralt of Rivia.
Your biggest flaw with Wicher 3 was for me having complete red kit modding tools! This would have been perfection and Im sure some modder would
have even made an WItcher 3 Multiplayer ^^

This thread will be filled by time with the definitive witcher gaming series fans and players advice, suggestions and thoughts
to help you dear CDProject not to mess up "our" Witcher 4 ;)

Cheers all

For not messing up Witcher "4" you can also not make another Witcher game when the original trilogy stands on its own like this. There's no way they will not disappoint. Even if they can do a great game it will probably be in the shadow of the wild hunt. Why fans and big companies can't just accept sometimes that good stuff must end... Well it's obvious for companies but fans...

Your biggest flaw with Witcher 3 was for me having complete red kit Modding tools!
The game is being made with UE5 and not REDengine so no REDkit (Which is sad). actually I think there won't be any proper Modding tools, aside from a script editing tool and a bundle extractor (Like TW3's MODkit), for this new Witcher game.

Here is an advice for you - the paying customer.Don't preorder. That's the [...] of today's gaming industry.Cyberpunk recouped it's developement costs and some more only from preorders. What's then the incentive for a company to deliver a good ,hell even working product. I mean ,the game was story-wise good ,even great. But the whole fiasco was quite avoidable.I'm talking about CDPR here ,but that's my general rule for all gaming companies

I always supported CDPR, even after the difficulties they had with Cyberpunk 2077. But now for the first time i am really disappointed. The REDengine was a beautiful engine. They have invested in this engine for 11 years and now choose the commercial and overrated Unreal Engine as if they were an Indie company. I am very sad and for now do not have hype at all. Bye

Maintaining custom engine and modding tools is very difficult and expensive quest. UE5 has wider community and developers all over the world thus having greater potential than Red ever could. This was the best choice they've made.

It would feel weird not to play with geralt in a the wicther, but it makes sense that they no longer follow his story at least as a protagonist

Great Thread and a wonderful Idea, I only hope CDProjekt Red is wise & patient enough to listen.

My Ideas and suggestions: Underlining Theme ---> Options!!! = Freedom!!!

1.) I think it would be cool to see some of the more prominent main characters in Witcher3 show up as supporting cast NPCs in some form or fashion for Witcher4.
2.) I prefer 3rd person mode when I play my Open World RPGs. But it is best to allow the gamer to make that choice themselves. Everyone has different play styles, thus give us all, the gamers the freedom to decide for ourselves!
3.) I want us gamers to have a choice in who we pick to play protagonist. Give us options and keep politics out of our games!!! For example, I would prefer to play a sexy hot female, perhaps Ciri or some other hot chick. Again, provide us the freedom to choose for ourselves.
4.) I enjoyed owning & upgrading my own house (property) in Witcher 3. Lets do it again, bigger and better. More quality of life and immersive things to unlock, discover and earn the better.
5.) I play on a high end gaming pc I built. I do not mess around and invest well in my hobby. I do my homework and research and use science when building and upgrading my rig. Thus, I run these games with peddle to the metal, all on Ultra high settings to the max from top to bottom. On a 1800R curve LC32G7xT 2560X1440 240 Hz & NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 WTF GPU, I am able to run 16+ hrs. of gaming, all settings max while maintaining an average 120+ fps or higher with 65 to 70°C temperature GPU. So I say, push the limits because I'm bored and need a challenge, I DARE YOU!
6.) I want camera and FOV freedom. Please don't limit my options in these categories. If you are going to invest the time & money on the technology to improve immersive scenery, graphics and visuals then don't tell me I have to limit my view with minimal camera overhead distance and short field of views. When I invest time and money on a good Open World RPG, I want to begin my fantasy journey immediately out of the box! I do not want to spend hours and days before playing doing the technical research, downloading and installing process of mods to fix these issues. The less I have to mod the better for my enjoyment of the game because it was made right! Stop making games that force us to mod for basic quality of life and immersive quality enhancements. Key word here is BASIC, such as overhead camera distance and FOV.
7.) Mini-Maps!!!! I know some ppl. don't want mini-map nor care for them. However, I do no matter what anyone thinks! Just give me an option in settings menu to "turn on / off" Minimap in upper righthand corner. This way, ppl who want a mini-map are happy & ppl who don't want a mini-map are happy because they can turn it off. Simple solution, please give me the freedom to have a minimap for my OPEN WORLD RPG game, thank you for your support!
8.) Please invest money and time on NextGen Gaming Speech Graphics Technology! If I have to wait longer to play and pay more money as a result so be it. We get what we pay for in most cases. Please do this right!
8.) Please ensure the team writing the story RPG main quests and side quests are not only passionate with imagination, but are also well versed and Educated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please!!!! I think most of us gamers are sick & tired of the lazy, flat, dead-end, lack of substance, lack of context AND feeling in the horrible writings and dare to call it RPG. We want to laugh and cry with the story, we want feelings and emotion of Biblical proportions, Billy Graham Style!!! :D
9.) I enjoy the entire Witcher series. I thought it to be the best OPEN world RPG game I have ever played. I know more than most it is not a perfect game far from it, but It is the best out there even still today when measuring the totality of what makes and OPEN World RPG great! Thus, I think the adult content and comedy in the game is far superb, none compare. So I would like more of this in the Witcher4 series. I want more brothels, more adult comedy and actions. I don't mind adult porn in my OPEN World RPG games. Please give us more and don't diminish the short sex scenes cinemas!
10.) In the settings menu, allow for us to choose an "On / off" filter option for adult content and make sure it works. Tired of games developers putting in options in game and they don't work or make any commonsense!!! Possibly consider making two different download versions to purchase, one for us Adult gamers and one for others.
11.) I immensely enjoy exploring every nook and cranny in land, air & sea of a good Open World (Gigantic) RPG. Take an example Concept from Legend of Zelda: BoTW, they didn't have "No" in their vocabulary! Allow me to reiterate... What you all did in The Witcher Series was AMAZING! JUST DO IT BIGGER AND BETTER! You were able to make the Open World, main campaign and side quest mesh well and work! In the Witcher series, you gave the many side quests as much care and attention as you did the main campaign which helps us gamers immerse ourselves further. The more I am exploring, solving, discovering & Earning, the more I am playing joyfully!
12.) Implementing Dominant Methods for Game Physics!!! If I am holding a torch in one hand and standing directly under an apple tree and one of the hanging fruit directly above me, the apple gets cooked and falls off the tree. If I spill or splash water onto dry soil, it turns into mud. Air, fire, water, force, velocity etc. Attention to Detail; a Marine Motto!!!
13.) Good AI for NPCs, BETTER AI please!
14.) One thing that really perturbs me about gaming is having to tolerate seeing the same exact NPC replicated in multiple areas. Please improve upon this! Separate yourselves above the rest.
15.) I myself, like many others I suppose, am a completionist. As such, I always play my games on the hardest level available. I do not like what Metroid: Dread game did once completing the game to its fullest on the hardest mode available (Moderate or normal mode). After completing it in normal mode, it unlocked hard mode. I did not like this. I do not want repeat the same game play through to completion again. This is ridiculous. So please allow the hardest mode available from the start. Do not make us play through to unlock different difficulty modes.
16.) I hated what Cyberpunk 2077 and Legend of Zelda: BoTW did upon ending completion. After defeating the game, they revert back to a previous state of game prior to end boss defeat. I don't like this, I hate this, this is stupid! If I decide to complete the main campaign and defeat the "End Boss" prior to exploring every nook and cranny, prior to completing every challenge, side quest, achievement etc, then so be it. Keep the current state of the game with main campaign and end boss defeated, in addition allowing me to go back under the current state to continue to exploring, discovering etc., while the end boss is still defeated.
17.) Excellent Parkouring: Running, Jumping, Climbing, Swimming & Riding & dare I say flying?
18.) Some Quality of Life in game components and mechanics should be difficult to earn but achievable. Example: Bag of holding :)
19.) The one thing I hated about Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is the scaling factor. While playing on the hardest difficulty mode possible and after achieving a certain level, I discovered I had become OP "Over Powering". This is because the areas recommended to visit during main campaign and side questing exploration did not scale well or at all with my improved development. As an intelligent and smart player, I always study mechanics and learn to min/max my toons. However, player progression shouldn't mean becoming over powering! If I remember correctly, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey did an excellent job in scaling from start to finish!!! I don't remember having this issue with Witcher I, II or III. I hope Witcher 4 can carry on this concept and tradition!
20.) Love games within a game. Mini-games are cool, love professions, crafting etc. Keep this going!
21.) Finally, last but not least, for the love of God and all that is Good, PLEASE KEEP POLITICS AND WOKENESS OUT OF OUR GAMES! Part of the huge success to The Witcher Series: I, II, III & DLCs were not having these poisonous elements (Politics / wokeness) in the game. There was no politics and no wokeness in The Witcher Series, you kept it out, so thank you! Please continue to do so for The Witcher 4! Don't mess this up!!!

Thank you for creating this thread and giving us, the community an opportunity for sharing our ideas, experiences and thoughts on what we think a good Open World RPG consist of when considering the next great Witcher Series! I hope the Team & Developers take to heart, mind and soul our collective solutions.

My friend, I'm actually happy they switched to UE5. I think you misunderstood me. I was just saying that There won't be (Or at least there will be a very small) modding tool for the new game and that's it. I wasn't complaining about them switching to UE5.

I also think it is going to be difficult for them to:

1. Live up to the original trilogy.
2. Make a main character even remotely close to as compelling as Geralt.
3. Manage to come up with a cast of supporting characters that are as great as the ones from the original trilogy.

I am glad they are making more games in the Witcher universe. I think it is a fun universe to explore.

My main hope for the fourth installment and next trilogy in general is that it is not a "woke" mess that puts messaging above a great story.

You always have to bring politics into it don't you?

I imagine you are replying to me. There is nothing inherently political about my statement... but everyone reads that in to everything these days - so it does not surprise me that you took it that way.

There have been other games - like the KOTR remake - where they have heavily hinted at wanting to send a message in the game. All that I am saying is I hope they focus on making a good story over promoting any kind of social message. If it is a good story that also has a message behind it (like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 both have good to great stories while also having statements behind certain quests) - then that is cool. It's just that the message itself should not become so important as to override what actually matters... the game having a great story.

The thing is that that "message" they allegedly want to send is not genuine but just a PR move to maximize sales, which makes it really infuriating when they choose to favor that over the quality of the plot itself. I can only imagine what the KOTOR remake is up to

I don't count TW and 2077 in the description above as all the themes those games deal with are deeply ingrained within the story/lore itself they tell.

Yes! I would love to have Geralt in Witcher 4. Can't get enough of a great thing. It's not like people are tired of Geralt, we want more! :)

Also, please keep a proper muscular and macho guy as the lead role. This is a medievel fantasy setting, and that works so much better with sword play, fighting etc. It keeps the verisimilitude at a much higher level.

Also a remake of Witcher 1 is great news.

AND DO NOT CUT ANY CHARACTERS IN THE FUTURE GAMES, LIKE YOU DID WITH MY BOY IORVETH! THAT WAS DIRTY OF YOU CD PROJEKT RED AND YOU KEPT SILENT FOR 6 MONTHS UNTIL THE GAME WAS RELEASED,TO LET US KNOW 'OH SORRY,WE CUT HIM CUZ BLA BLA BLA'

Also please add an option to choose a female main character instead. Ciri looked perfect with her swords.
I don't mind if most romances become girl-girl then. I like that.
Not because "woke", just because I prefer playing a female.

This. TW4 better have a female character option at the very least like AC Odyssey/Valhalla
