"When will TW4 be released?"

Voted 2028 & beyond.

Never played the Witcher series but saw on Steam that THE WITCHER 3: WILD HUNT needs 50 GB of storage compared to CYBERPUNK 2077 which needs 70 GB. Yeah, and after, "CD Projekt Red Says Witcher 4 Will Be "Better, Bigger, Greater" Than Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk. Dec 2, 2024", it's safe to conclude that such an immense prestige project will not be delivered anytime soon.

No, I think December 2028. Seems to be CDPR's favorite month.

Voted 2026.
Heard somewhere CDPR's financial planning included a sales income for 2026 which can only be TW4. And they can't keep paying the 400 devs (plus the others working on CP) indefinitely without a release.
If they have game mechanic concept and storyline fleshed out and already a playable area done, the rest should be doable highly in parallel. If they can keep these devs working instead of endless discussions, sprint planning meetings etc.

Hey,
A bit off-topic, but whatever - is anything known about system requirements?
Did developers note the game will be released on current-gen consoles?
And what about a Linux release? I was thinking about moving from Windows to avoid Microsoft's spyware and bloatware.

Not that surprising, really. It also sounded to me like The Witcher Remake may have got pushed back a bit internally. I know the plan was always to use the tech from TW4 for the Remake, but what they said on the call made it sound like they've significantly scaled down work on it for now and diverted Fool's Theory devs to help on TW4 and an unnanounced project.

Also, with the NA branch now set up and running, it seems like CDPR is finally in the position they've been trying to get to ever since the release of TW2: independently working on 2 franchises in a staggered manner. So, following another long wait for TW4, future studio output should have a more regular cadence.

2027 is the optimistic date now.

With that knowledge I am expecting at least one more teaser before this year ends in order to not let the hype die down too much.
Perhaps another cinematic trailer revealing a bit more about the story?

With the marketing campaign picking up steam sometime in 2026.

Also I'm calling it now.

TW4 will probably be one of the flagship games for next gen consoles.

So the release of the game might very much depend on the release of PS6 and the next Xbox.

There are some speculations that PS6 might release in late 2027.

I've heard somewhere that they won't release any significant marketing material this year.

Note that CDPR wants to release the new trilogy in 6 years (meaning that, in average, TW5 and 6 will have 3 years of development time). This is a highly ambitious task, so they already need to be planning for the sequels (and their potential expansions) and they need a good groundwork to build the other games upon. Also, TW1 remake is relying on the tech and assets build for TW4. All of these (plus them not wanting to crunch) suggest that TW4 will have a really long development time. So I don't think we can speculate the release date based on their previous titles' development.

"CD Projekt Red Says Witcher 4 Will Be "Better, Bigger, Greater" Than Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk. Dec 2, 2024"

They weren't talking about the actual size of the open world when they said "Bigger". Kalemba has confirmed that TW4 will be (more or less) the same size as TW3 (both in terms of the world proportions and the amount of content), so I think we have reached the peak in terms of the open world size and content in The Witcher series.

I'd say May is CDPR's favorite  TW2 was released on May 17th and TW3 on May 18th. It would be funny if they released TW4 on May 19th :D

2028 or even later... They've never released a game on time. And new game engine that need to be rebuild to run vast open world RPG's.

Most likely not before 2026 or 2027 at the very least, and I'm perfectly fine with that. I want the game to be as polished as possible. Also, I haven't played enough Witcher 3, I need to explore that game way more before jumping into 4.

We will get another, longer teaser in late 2026.
Release date announcement in mid 2027 for release in late 2027.
Delayed for QA and finally released in spring 2028.
