Witcher enhanched edition not working (Steam)

i recently brought the witcher enhanced edition directors cut off of steam.
i downloaded the game and when i go to play it, it wont load the launcher up or the game. i have also downloaded the 1.4 patch and tried to update it and try to get it to work but it gets to the end and says the game wasn't installed properly. i also tried to install the 1.5 patch but that doesn't work either.
i have looked all over the forums and cant find anything to do with this problem.
i get the error code 51 from steam when i try and play the game.
i managed to get the witcher 2 assassins of kings enhanced edition to work by installing the patches but it seems like it doesn't want to work for the witcher.

At the moment i am running a windows 7 system.


Could anyone please help as this is really starting to get annoying as i really want to play the game. and also i have uninstalled it then re installed it but it still comes up with the same things

Hi Guys,

Have you find the solution? I have pretty much exactly the same problem. When launching the game, the screen just start to blink and then the game crashes. I cannot install any of the patches because I get the same errors than op. Could this be something to do with 64-bit win7 or the steam version of the game? I have tried to re-install, run the game as administrator, tried the 680x480 mode and verified the game cache, but nothing seems to work. It's getting increasingly frustrating.

Currently I'm playing on Asus G75vw and I didn't have any problems with the witcher 2.

Please help!

If you don`t have any bandwidth related issues then try the GOG backup from the post above . My current thinking is that it probably has something to do with UAC and yo an`t install the game as administrator . It may help to run Steam as admin .

I loaded and installed the GOG-version but I still face the same problems. Maybe I should try to install the game to another computer. />/>

Edit: I also tried to run Steam as admin, no help.

Edit vol 2: found my solution for the problem. I just unplugged my external 1440p monitor. Apparently the game does not support multiple monitors or just over 1080p ones.
