Yes, it would be nice if both manufacturers could do a little better on drivers. Whichever you use you are going to run into problems with something. To bad they can't make specific drivers for specific cards, it seems like when they try to make drivers that will make the latest and greatest card work, something gets lost. Not only for older cards but for the newest as well.

At least I'm finding Nvidia a bit more sucessful in this. I had a X1800XT, although I love that card and has a better image quality (AVIVO) than my current one (8800GT), I stood using the same drivers for almost one year. All the drivers I installed after the original ones had some sort of problem or instability.Don't get me wrong, I prefer ATI over Nvidia, but somehow it seems Nvidia put some more effort in their driver, but it's terrible to make any card last for more then 6 months. That's why I miss 3dfx and my old Voodoo 4 or my Creative Voodoo Banshee. :p

Yep, I love my avivo, video quality is superior indeed. I fixed all the instability issues with ATI Tray Tools, but yes the driver updates are less stable, fact is though after that ATT I now can use any newer driver from ATI. Nvidia I had to find just tons of alternate drivers over and over.OMFG. I still have a Voodoo 3. It can stil run american Mcgee's Alice, maxed! Not to mention I was the proper age to buy it at release date, ehem. That card was so stable it blew my mind.
