run regedit in CrossOver, export the CD Projekt RED registry keysrun regedit of WINE, import the registry keys, fix the paths mentioned in those keysrun: wine witcher.exe

Okay, I will try that. Just a question. Wouldn't that be the same as just copying the CrossOver bottle into .wine and just running wine witcher.exe?

I thought I'd contribute to this thread. I manage to get the Witcher Standard Edition to install and use the registry tweaks here. I used d3d9_36.dll, gdiplus.dll, and a couple of MSVCRT80 dlls. Also installed mono 1.9.1 and mono 2.4 though I think 2.4 was the one that got used. Installing the EE upgrade was a bit of a pain to do, I've registered at least a dozen times and the TWEE Upgrade installer insists I should register. I think that the online register check crashes with some font that .Net uses and Mono cannot support. At the end of the day, I___________________________________________________I'm now running the game and it looks great on Wine 1.1.19 although the speed is a little stuttery. I will try different resolutions and graphics tweaks. Hopefully this helps other Wine users out there.[MOD]No such discussion here please/MOD]

I finally managed to get the upgrade from 1.0 to 1.4 enhanced edition to work without using a crack. :) Mono 2.2 as installed by winetricks was the problem. It's BROKEN. :wall: Mono 2.0.1 on the other hand works fine. I don't doubt that Mono 1.9.1 works also given all the people who have reported successful upgrades with it. But since I was able to get 2.0.1 to work I didn't bother trying 1.9.1 as well. I also moved to wine 1.1.21 this weekend with a fresh install. I've got to say that wine is improving rapidly these days. I did not need to install either d3dx9_35.dll or the vcrun2005sp1 redistributable package. The installation from my Witcher CD automatically installed the necessary redistributables. These files weren't present before I installed the game. After installing the game I looked in windows/system32 and found a bunch of d3dx9_*.dll's including d3dx9_35.dll and also in windows/winsxs where I found it fully populated with all the necessary MS Visual C++ library files. So some sort of bug that was preventing the proper installation of those libraries must have been fixed somewhere between wine 1.1.18 and 1.1.21. All I needed this time were gdiplus.dll (via winetricks) to get the launcher/registration programs to work, mono20 (via winetricks) to get the upgrade to 1.4 enhanced edition to work, and the directx registry edits (found earlier in this thread) to make the game playable. Cheers!

Hi everybody!I have got Witcher from some time and I used to play with it on Windows. But from couple of years I am using only Linux. So now I am trying to make wither run.I have got Wither 1.0, Ubuntu 10.04 64bit, wine 1.2-1 (repository).Installation went fine, but before I can upgrade game to 1.4 version I need to register my copy.So on a main game window I pressed 'Register game', than 'Log in' (because game was already registered in the past on Windows), I put in my forum login and password, press 'Log in', and than I got message: 'InternetException, 12037'.I have already installed ie8, mono 2.6.7 and gdiplus.dll by winetricks, but nothing seems to help.Anybody got any idea how to handle with this problem?

You might try reading the FAQ: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0 i know there is a section in there about the register.exe

Thanks! There seems to be some useful tips which I will try to perform. Maybe I even consider register game on Windows machine and export registry entry to my wine.I will keep you up to date with my progress.Best regards.

Since I have switched all my computers over to ubuntu I was wondering if they will make the game run natively or am I stuck with wine?

I ask the devs about native Linux version in "Ask the devs" topic and they said that there are no plans for Linux version. At least they plan to make The Witcher 2 for consoles so there is hope that Wine will do just fine (no Windows specific hacks :)

Thanks for the reply. That's the beauty with Linux, it can run just about everything :)

Tsk, I was hoping to get it, but I stopped risking my money on games that *might* work. Too bad, yet another game I won't play T_T

Witcher for Mac supposedly fixed the unpleasant bug which appears under Wine as blank health / toxicity bars as well as missing health UI rings around NPCs.

Dear CD Projekt Red devs, can you please submit that patch to Wine upstream, so other Wine users (like Linux ones) can enjoy your great game without that annoying bug as well? I bought the Witcher on GOG, and besides that bug and couple of other minor quirks it runs under Wine on Linux very nicely. If you didn't work on the Mac Wine wrapping yourself, can you please ask those who worked on it to submit that patch to the Wine source upstream?

Thanks again for your great games, and especially for promoting the DRM free distribution.

unfortunately there aren't any WINE patches, not even for the issues that nVidia 7xxx cards experience

What are those issues with 7xxx cards? Are distorted models of some NPCs part of them (for example stretched fingers, misshaped breasts and so on)?

actually no, there where the ones with the player models stuck in the ragdoll pose but those where fixed a while back IIRC

the stretched fingers I got them too sometimes, no idea why

also depending on my WINE cfg I get the "no body but eyes mouth and sword" Gerald model sometimes... freaky

but using a clean profile should yield a rather playable game, except those bugs mentioned all the way back here: http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/topic/2266-witcher-on-linux/page__view__findpost__p__223556
