Witcher Sense Mechanics....a few ideas...

I am late for work so I will make this short and elaborate more later......

I hope Witcher Sense is more than 1 sense. We have five after all. We have heightened sight of course, but what about smell( such as witcher 2 for the succubus quest line, where you smell sulfur in the air) I would like it so we smell or hear something of interest and then we investigate, not turn on witcher vision scan the area and anything we need to do is high lighted for us. Please make it immerseive and challenging. No gimmes OK?

I will post more later off to 12hrs of hard work!!!! so i can afford to upgrade my rig to play w3 on max settings....
insert maniacal laughter and pic of me with my hands in my hair pulling it out.....lol

edit: oh and of course I want all you awesome members here and cdpr devs to chime in!!!!

How would you convey those though? I mean it still had to be done visually (except with aural cues, I guess). So highlighted clouds of odorant molecules then? Or are you talking about Geralt saying something like the aforementioned “I smell sulfur”, “There’s a metallic taste in the air” or “This place is cold” and so forth which is the hint that you then have to make use of?

I like the idea, but I think witcher senses is going to be like Detective Mode from Batman, i.e. an "overlay" on regular visuals. There's also some idea about being able to re-create events for visualization, which sounds useful.

This is a Batman demo, but @ 9:42 they show what B-man's detective mode is like in Origins. I feel like, given the few descriptions we got on it, the scene recreation aspect of the witcher senses mechanic is going to be presented in a similar manner, which I think is pretty useful.

Off topic, a human have anything between 9 and 21 senses (depending on who you ask), this thing about humans only having 5 senses is based on a fallacy.

Now about senses, the big issue is that they will almost always be gimmicky in some way as you only experience sight and hearing from the game itself, so while I agree that it would add, I'm not certain on how CD RED could implement it in a immerse and challenging way (without spending a lot of money on a rather trivial game play mechanic).

The closest way I can think about is either to how dialogues worked with signs and intimidation but that sort of just add more of nothing because it would be overbearing in conversations/investigations.

Or what I would personal prefer, an indirect way so that when you for example examine an area or something, further investigation would unlock Geralt to say something like "This air feels unusual dense" and then you could either talk to someone or get a book to understand the situation. Granted these mechanics could just be focused on certain quests rather than a different function.

I will start with hearing. I can think of 2 ways it might work. The first which would be my preferred way when dealing with hearing is we the user actually hear a noise in our head phones/speakers. For instance say we are near a hidden cave and we hear an echoed scream from a dying person/animal/thing and Geralt may have an animation were he cocks his head as if listening but ultimately it is up to us to follow that cue(animation) and the noise to its's source.

Another hearing one could be we step on a certain area and Geralts/our steps sound different, again Geralt might look down in an odd way but it would be up to us to activate the witcher sense at that instance to find a hidden underground bunker/tunnel system. If we walk off that area we will not pick up anything when we activate the witcher sense mechanic( as I do not want an automatic system) Make it more real. Just a few examples of what I propose...

I will think of a few more in due time....

I dont mind any type of witcher sense that helps you find clues, but only if its still up to the player to interpret them, figure out what does it mean and what should be done.

I really like this idea.

Thought of one for smell, but it was ridiculous.

This.

A bestiary was mentioned. I hope one has to actually gather up information to fill up the entries instead of one just being given the information from the head start.

Yeah I need to resurrect this thread. Here's GT's take on the concept as used in Arkham Origins- it plays out like an episode of CSI. Fast forward to 3:20.

I won't be able to take any investigation in TW3 seriously if it works even remotely like this, clicking a highlighted clue and watching a monochromatic mini-movie.

Shit. I forgot the link, and I can't edit anymore:

Mod - fixed that for you .

From what have been described so far, it sounds pretty similar to this, but I hope there are some clever tweaks that make the system ingenious.

I imagine it more like Geralt commenting on the clues he sees in the world, a system definitely more unobtrusive than what we get in Batman games.

So the player still has to pay attention to the investigation.

Good gracious.
That looks atrocious.

Then again CSI itself ain't no prodigy. I expect CDProjekt to put a lot more thought behind it and come up with a real challenge. Everyone but the visually impaired lobotomized is able to click through highlighted clues.
