Witcher Silver Sword Price.

Hey all, I am a HUGE fan of the Witcher, and an developing private blade smith.I was wondering how much people would pay for an exact replica of Geralt's sliver sword, complete with silver plated blade and wolf head on the pummel. As for design preference, there is a slight difference between TW1 and TW2, namely the wolfs head, in the first Witcher is is one head, in the second there is 4, so I also ask, witch design would you all prefer? If the weapon is made there will only ever be one or two ever produced as I use the old style hammer and forge method.

it wouldn't have much practical use. so as a display piece, i'd pay probably at most 50 dollars

Hi Continuum,If you're talking about 1:1 scale replica then the base sword alone would be worth 50 - 300 dollars depending on the quality and steel alloy. Silver plating would increase the price, don't know how much exactly. If you'd happen to be an exceptionally gifted smith then the sword might be priceless.

wooow... looks like as if CDPR is going to have their own sword blacksmith, you will possess a unique job.As for the production of the sword(s), is there a difference in manufacturing for replica swords for decorations and combat swords? I don't know much about the physics of these materials but :-D isn't silver quite soft/weak to forge even if you use it as a coating? Such a sword is only meant for decoration I guess.

@ Flash. Yes I had envisaged a 1:1 scale. Sword quality can be top notch, Stainless Spring steel base, and a blade coated with real silver.@ Petra Sillie It could potentially be a battle worthy sword or only for decoration, I however much prefer to make battle worthy blades. As said above I will use Stainless Spring Steel (The BEST thing possible to use, Super strong, flexible and doesn't rust), and Silver. Sliver is a soft metal, but that's why the blade is only plated with it, the Stainless Spring Steel will take the beating if it's used.@ evmiller Possibly, but working with tiny little pieces of metal is a pain in the ass.

It may be useful to you taking a look at the prices here. Of course the swords here are very high quality steel and battle ready, but no silver. For those exposition stuff, the ones you hang on the wall, or keep on the shelves, you may want to take a look at this stuff. No battle ready neither high quality of course. But cheapest for sure. If you can succed in making something like Marto's (with no silver of course) you may want to consider a price between 100€ - 300€ (don't know the dollars exchange). Albion's higher (300€ - 2000€ ...). A silver imbued could raise the prize to... no idea. I don't know how many people could afford such a cost. Maybe a cheap steel one but mirrored (I mean furbished til the steel reflect like a mirror) would make the same "silver effect" and be less expensive for customers. My silver Lotr silver Sauron's ring reproduction was near 200€. But it's only a ring.

@ secondchildren The costs of the swords in the links you provided me are in excess of 1000$ (about 770€ ). Silver at the moment is about 20$ and ounce (1 ounce = about 29 grams) and I would only be guessing but I would use maybe 200 grams (that is completely a guess I have no actual idea yet). As for preciseness and accuracy, I am pretty sure I can make it 99.9% the same as the sword in-game.Also I hate to brake it to you, but silver tarnishes very quickly in air, So that 'shiny' effect you refer to doesn't last very long anyway if there was real silver on the blade. On that note, would it be the same with out the silver coating? All this has made me wonder, Is somebody actually willing enough to pay such an exorbitant price for an exact replica of a sliver sword? I know at on point in time I would have killed to get my hands on one.Lastly I have attached a picture of an unfinished sword I am currently working on sitting next to a 30cm ruler and a length of chainmalle I also made, sorry for the bad Quality, my picture taking skills (and camera) and my bladesmithing skills are in no way related. :p

Instead of silver coating you could use chrome. It will shine all the time and won't tarnish like silver. Also if you want to make it battle ready, there shouldn't be any coating at all. After first hit coating will be damaged and the sword will rust quickly (unless chrome-coated and stainless steel core - with chrome addition, but as far as I know, stainless steel is not durable enough to make a battle ready sword).PS. Price depends on the maker/seller - give us the product and the price and then we can say it's too expensive ;)

That's why silver swords are only tested against flesh.

Indeed I know. That's why I suggested a mirror polish on the blade. I didn't suggest u to use any silver. I just was wondering of the cost of a silver coated blade.

Ah you may not want to know what people spend their money for! See the Atlantean sword replica of Conan the Barbarian? It has been sold up to 2000 € (again don't know the dollars exachange)

I don't think chroming the steel is a good idea. When you beat the blade or jaggered in any way, the chrome is removed in that particular spot. But I don't know too much of metalworking though.

Yeah I think It's best If I make it first, Which might take a while, these things are not quickly done, especially to this standard.

Not necessarily, a well applied chrome plating could take a bit of a beating before it started to peel off, but then when it did finally peel you would see the nicol and then copper under it (To chrome plate a steel object properly you need to first cooper plate it, nicol plate it and then finally chrome), which may be an eye sore.If I where to make it out of stainless spring steel and polished it up I would be able to achieve the desired effect without harming the 'battle worthiness' of the blade. The reason I Originally suggested silver was for authenticity.

I totally love the idea of the replica silver sword. The other day I dreamed if I won a lottery I would commisson one high-quality Geralt's sword. Now I know who to contact if that happened. ;)

You might check around your area to see if there are any silversmiths around. I know there are jewelry makers that use rhodium or a clear polymer resin to coat sterling silver to keep it from tarnishing. Jewelers would know where to get that sort of thing. (I used to know two companies, but I don't know if either is still in business)Sterling silver is alloyed to be harder than pure silver, but is still mostly silver. (0.996%)Interesting idea, though. Such a sword might be worth $500-$1000 depending on the wolf head and the quality of the blade/tong. Too rich for me, but I'd still love to see it.

Yeah, it's unlikely that I would spend money on something like this, but it would be cool to see it if it gets made.

It'd be cool to see made, but I wouldn't be able to spend more then $50 or so which is probably not worth the time for the creator. I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me.

I'd be willing to spend at least a thousand US dollars on such a weapon, or pay in installments for a much higher price. Such a blade would be my most treasured possesion.

I spent 120 dollars just to get my hands on an authentic witcher medallion from the collectors edition and I intend to use it to make a mold and get a sterling silver medallion. Basically, if its from the witcher, I want it.

If the sword is an exact replica of the one in the game, I'd be willing to pay 150 euros. Don't have much more to spare lol.
