don´t think he´ll make it, the witcher fanbase is relatively small. I´d personally love to see him make the oathbreaker swords.

What will Thor say when he finds out his hammer is hollow?

Ahh... you see, just like for that hammer (which is way too shiny for even Marvels Thor imo), he would silver plate another metal, e.g. an iron sword, which would require a technology not available to the Witcher to create a silver plated sword, not a silver sword - which itself has been a topic of contention over its practical utility anyway (its a bit soft for repeatedly whacking people carapaced monsters with), never mind the unfounded origin of its mystical properties. ;)

One of the Elvish blades would be better choice then generic Geralts sword.
I guess it's free advertisement wouldn't hurt anyone.

All bros and sis, you are are like me and in love with medieval weaponry, here is a good starting info:

http://www.sword-buyers-guide.com/medieval-swords.html

My favorites by far are Angus Trim Valiant Armory swords, they are listed under HI-PERFORMANCE MEDIEVAL SWORDS.

There is nothing special in witcher's blade. It's just high quality longsword and high quality long sword covered with little bit of silver, edge is steel anyway.

Because he doesn't mass-produce it. It was crafted specifically by order of CDPR as a prize for a REDkit related competition. Szymon mostly makes Fechtfeders (which my fencing school recently got a hold of - they're awesome!) but also handcrafts other swords. If you have a special wish, like the Witcher sword, just contact him. If he's allowed to make more of them (maybe there're licensing issues prohibiting it), I think he will if you're willing to pay the price for a special order hand-crafted sword and he has the time for it. Anyways, the worst case scenario of contacting him is that he won't do it - no harm done.

I think Mourner would be a better choice than just a silver sword.

It was the sword given to him because he won the redkit contest.

Silver swords has runic inscription:
Elder Speech: "Dubhenn haern am glândeal, morc'h am fhean aiesin."
Polish translation: "Mój błysk przebije ciemności, moja jasność mroki rozproszy."
English translation: "My glimmer is breaking darkness, my brightness is dispelling the shadows."

Info from "Season of Storms", page 382.

Has anyone ever mentioned how similar to Irish Gaeilge the Elder Speech is?

Certainly in the word spelling and sounds spoken, and more than occasional connections in translation.

I.e.:

Dubh means black, and Haer means air, and "darkness" is often referred to as "black air" in old writing.

am = time, glan = net, dea = good, mor = large, fhean = fan, sin = that.

make of those what you will.

Caedmill is a sword in game, apparently Elder Speech for "greet".

"Cead mille failte" is the traditional irish greeting "a hundred thousand welcomes"..

There are many more have struck me playing the games, but i've never bothered making a list :).

Still, it's probably one of those things that makes me feel so at home in the Witcher universe.

I found it closer to Welsh (or Breton), with many "p-Celtic" words, but I speak neither so cannot say with any kind of certainty. Also, the framing story in Lady of the Lake is set in a recognizable location in Gwynedd, where the greatest concentration of Welsh speakers is found.
