But I think the biggest aim was to prevent people from reselling the game. It has no drm, so they had to find another way.
This is also the reason why they announced the expansions so early (before release) People know there will be more content in october and early 2016 and if they enjoyed Witcher 3, they won't sell the game. CDP doesn't get any money from the secondhand market, so it was a smart decision.
I'm fine with it.CDP has the same aim as any other company They want to make money. But instead of restricting the players with drm they are trying to give the player a motivation to not sell the game.
Personally I wouldn't mind to get a small dlc every week till the first expansion releases. It keeps the game fresh. Just the Triss outfit for example motivates me to replay some of her missions.

Think those commands were there since day 1 too but they simply didn't work.
So it's not "on-disk" DLC that has been locked but they probably made all the DLC ahead of release and are now making drops every week.

I neither praise nor condemn them... the DLC is free, so all they really did was withhold it to keep the game in the media for 2 months longer. I don't see a problem with it...

They were probably making it a few months before release and didn't find enough time to put them on the disk or whatever
or are probably just doing it for marketing purposes to look like good guys (which they are I mean it's free)
Why would they even bother trying to hide it? I don't see why they would want to be secretive about it.
If the plot of the next expansion is in there, yeah that might be worth hiding, but the name of a couple pieces of gear?
No reason? Of course they have a reason: marketing. That way they stay in the news. This is NOT fan service. It's pure marketing and PR. It's free because it's clearly stuff that should and could be part of the release version. So yeah, they're not as bad as EA. That doesn't make it a good move or a fan-friendly move.
And the biggest fans who have already finished the game couldn't enjoy this stuff because it was ripped out of the release version. Thanks for nothing.
To me the point of the those DLCs is what the gear actually looks like, the appearance of my character is very important to me. Don't care that much about armor stats either, as long it looks awesome I'll go with it. I even use a level 16 weapon with level 23 because I like the look of that sword, same with my lvl 12 chest piece. It also prevents the game from getting too easy.

I don't comprehend this argument in a game where you don't get to design your own protagonist.
While I understand that most people don't want to run around looking like a clown, the slight differences between the witcher gear sets are quite irrelevant considering that you always have to play as Geralt.
Apply some common sense, mate. Given the integration of these DLCs on day 1 you can infer their intentions. I can assure you that the creation of the assets for these DLCs does not happen over the course of the week before they're released. They probably sat down a set of artists and designers to create all these pieces of armor, the quests and whatever they want to release later on for a week and what we're getting now over the course of a two-month period is the result of that session.
I'm not evaluating this approach, mind you.
Your reasoning also doesn't really apply here. CDPR have built up a reputation over the past ten-or-so years of valuing their customers and providing quite the post-release support with the last two Witcher games getting an EE each. They're loved for their approach to DRM with GOG. They've earned a lot of customer goodwill. Asking for money for a single set of armor or a quest would piss on the image they've tried to create for a while now. Their past actions prevent them from asking for money. Instead, they're giving away these asset packs for free for marketing purposes and to further their brand.
I don't comprehend what you're saying. You do play always the same character but you can make him look a lot different with all the armor, hair and beardstyles at your disposal.
"Little" things that some people (I guess you're one of them) barely even notice can have a huge impact for me. Such as going with a full beard or fully shaven gives Geralt an entirely different look.
But never mind, no point in arguing about taste/interests.

Yeah, why would they want to sell more copies right?
Geralt will still always look like Geralt, the customization options are small compared to games where you can design your own character.
Don't get me wrong, I like good looking armour, but things like doing another playthrough for the new armour set is just ridiculous (but of course everyone may do so if they wish).
Just saying they could have thought of something better to tear from the game and add later as a "free DLC".
