Don't want to make this a Roast of WoW thread but we might as well have a mature discussion.
Personally, I hold WoW (more than any other MMO) responsible for popularizing the ridiculous and over simplified play type classification we see today in action oriented RPGs. Even The Witcher 3 uses some of this terminology. I'm talking about the whole tank, DPS, healer triad that reduced role playing to choosing a stereotype, 100% combat oriented mind you.
Now I understand the idea behind tank as a function and dps as a metric, but this concept permeated even single player RPGs which now play like offline WoWs. They should have called it something else, like massively multiplayer online action raids.
Thankfully there's Kickstarter, but the damage is done. A new genre almost consumed an old one, impersonating it in the process.
