@Guy N'wahYou seem to know a lot about PCs. Do you think that I'll be able to play Witcher 2 on ultra settings with my E8400 Core2Duo (3.00 Ghz)? I have an ATI 4870 1GB (slightly above recommended) and 4GB DDR3.

It should play the game very nicely indeed, but I'm going to risk having to eat my words by saying it will be good for high but not Ultra settings. The E8400 is a very fast dual core with a big cache, but what we have seen so far is that the game is optimized for more cores. And with LGA 775 now being two generations out of date, the good quad cores (Q9550, Q9650, QX9650) have become harder to find and expensive, so there is not much of an upgrade path. I would still rather have the E8400 than a low-grade quad core like a Q8400.The 4870 is also a couple generations old, and while it's still a formidable card, it's roughly equal to a 5770/6770 and below the GTX 460 or HD 5850 that have been seen to achieve Ultra settings. So I'm not going to stick my neck out by predicting it will achieve Ultra.

Thanks man! Maybe the final version of the game will be slightly better optimized, but high settings also looks fine to me.

If you can play the first Crysis on high settings. You should be able to play this easy. CDPROJECT have put a lot of effort into their new engine to optimize it properly for all types of PC's. The Cryengine 2 is very demanding due to the lack of optimization. Expect an excellent gameplay and graphical experience in the Witcher 2.

Hi, I am new to this forum, my user name is dragren, I have a PC that meets or exceeds the requirments for the gameexcept for the videocard, I only have a AMD RADEON HD 3650 GRAPHICS CARD, that is 512 MB- it is given additional MB of graphics power internaly by the PC, the PC itself is- a HP M9400F AMD PHENOM X 4 9750 QUADCORE 2.40/GHZ PROCESSOR, with 8 GB RAM, it has VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64 BIT EDITION as the OS, It isupdated with all VISTA 64 and microsoft updates. There is at least 400 GB of space left on my hard drive.I have never played or tried to play a game that I couldn't or that I had problems playing of a graphical nature, so theWITCHER 2 may be the 1st, I hope I can play it because I am really looking forward to it. I would apreciate it if any one who has an opinion or any knowledge or advice on the subject would let me know if you think or believe I will or will not be able to run/play the game, and at what settings - if I am able to play it. Also if I should even bother to get the game or if my PC-and graphics would make it not worth even purchasing, for play on my PC, THANKS for any comments and advice/opinions in advance.

The game is DX 9, so you will be able to play it at medium to high settings with an average only slightly above 30 FPS. Do not enable AA at all. If you can, try get a new graphics card like the GTX 460 or ATI equivalent to max it out at slightly above 30 FPS. Your CPU and RAM is excellent however. The RED engine really utilizes all the cores, so that should take a bit of the load off your graphics card. When the game releases play around with the settings and see what you can get. But i rate it will be in the medium-high range. Which still will look excellent.

You should be maxed out or close to it. The only reservation I have is that the '635 is not a high performer among quad cores. Also, I believe the game will be letterboxed (probably to 1280x720) on your monitor. Everything else is fine.

You should be fine. The 4850 and the CPU are well above minimum. From the Task Mangler stripcharts that have been shown, this game will load the CPU heavily, though I doubt it's as inefficient as original Crysis (and it's DX9 only).

Low to medium, maybe. The CPU is excellent, but the 5570 is well below minimum requirements, and 1GB GDDR3 is an unwieldy configuration for it. (If you're going to use a card with 1GB, I'd rather see GDDR5 or a 256-bit-wide bus.) Make that a 5670 with GDDR5, and I'd raise your odds of getting medium settings. As Lhino mentioned, don't even try to use AF or AA with that card.

On 720p you should play it on even better settings. I was referring to 1080p sorry.

I'm not willing to stick my neck out by making claims that rigs that miss the stated requirements by a substantial margin will make even medium settings at any resolution. The artwork that is being driven to the screen in this game is unprecedented, as is the engine being used for it, and making comparisons to other games is not helpful. Nobody except the developers know how such machines will perform, and the developers have not commented.

Let's see what we can do for something a little closer to spec than the 3650 and a little better on actual (as opposed to manufacturers' overstated requirements) power requirements. In ATI cards, the minimum spec is a 3850, which has 320 shaders and can do 10.7 GP/s and 10.7 GT/s (gigapixels and gigatexels per second). The 3650 has just 120 shaders and can do just 2.9 GP/s and 5.8 GT/s. It might actually be enough to run the game on minimum, since all evidence is that the game plays quite well at minimum specs, but let's try to do better.Your 3650 draws 65W TDP (total design power). My experience with cards like this is ATI is pretty good at estimating the actual power. So let's assume we are limited to 65W TDP, and we can't squeeze an additional 10W out of your system.Other ATI cards around 65W TDP are the 4670, 5670, and 6670 (OK, the 6670 is 66W.) These come much closer to the game's minimum requirement, but they're not going to bust your power supply. I think they reach about 90% of the minimum (the minimum works out to about 11,000 3DMark06, and I get better than 10,000 on my not-yet-tuned 5670 rig).

Well this topic got popular over night -- Thanks Guy, that was exactly the conversation I was hoping to have with someone more familiar with the systems and what they are actually doing, as opposed to the published mess that newbies like me have to work with. I had considered the idea that all cards will step down to what is available, but i just wasn't sure what the trade-offs would be. Thanks for helping. I think I am going card shopping :)

I have the following specs:-Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3-Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 @ 2.80GHz-3.0GB DDR2-512MBGeForce 9600 GTIs there any possibility of playing in Minimum/Medium detail with some tweaks, without any performance problem? I can run Crysis 1 and The Witcher 1, that had some performance problems, at Medium/Maximum details tweaking some configurations with decent FPS (around 30/40 more or less almost all the way through the game), so... I hope there won't be much problems.

I'd say you would be able to play it on minimum settings smoothly since your video card is about equivalent to the minimum required card. You have plenty of RAM and your processor is above the minimum required clockwise :) I don't see any problems in getting the game to run. If they've optimized the game since the preview version you might even be able to use medium settings - but that is, of course, only speculation. Usually when video drivers mature a bit (after a games release) you tend to see performance gains.

Ok, thank you. Just to make a little sure, cause I really don't mind much about graphics and visuals but gameplay, characters and plots.Allthough, obviously, in one or two years I'll try to have an entire upgrade of the PC to replay the game in Ultra, because it really looks amazing and the guys of CD-Projekt made a good effort.
