Or if you weren't allowed to play as a Witcher, just in that world, but I don't know how well that would go over. XD Like you could play as Human, Elf, or Dwarf.

Not a chance of happening. If the MMO is big, they'd add Witchers as a 'sub class.' I don't think an MMO would work though.

Because:

1) We already have tons of fantasy MMOs.

2) Those fantasy MMOs involve grand cities, or dark fortresses of evil. The world of the Witcher isn't that.

3) (Expanding on the above.) The world isn't just MMO material. It's too 'realistic.'

Absolutely no, The mmo market is saturated with failures, many an mmo has launched in the past 5 years only to go free to play, or go under entirely. I love the Witcher and want to see it stay true to its roots, a deep, engaging and mature single player rpg. The only possible way I can see it thrive beyond what it is now is maybe having a co-op system similar to fable 2 (without the bugs and crap combat.)

I think a diablo-style system of multiplayer would definitely work. Although you couldn´t have extra Geralts or that would be weird...

Ok. I looked at it, weighed the pros vs cons and my answer is still.

FUCK NO.

This is as someone who played WoW for over 3 years.

No. If there is anything Age of Conan has taught me, it's that the moment you take an awesome IP and put it into an MMO, the lore instantly becomes screwed up. In that setting, mages are the minority, they don't sling fireballs. In the game? Mages are a majority, and sling fireballs. I'd rather not see 50000000 Witchers running around.

Now before everyone chimes in with a resounding, shallow answer of "NO!" stop and think it over for a second and weigh the pros and cons and decide if you think it would have potential. You don't have to agree, just don't say "no" without even thinking about it.

I'm certain it won't happen and I can't say that I particularly want one, but it has all the right stuff that would fit an MMO.

OK. Thought about it....................................

Still no.

Developing an AAA MMORPG game is a huge effort, both in terms of human and financial resources.

I don't think CDPR has them both in sufficient amount to even think about developing a MMORPG and 2 AAA+ titles scheduled for 2014-2015 at the same time.

Also, seeing how SWTOR is struggling to keep the player numbers up, I don't think getting into the MMO pond would be a wise business move, as the ROI becomes more and more uncertain.

I'd play a MMO from CD Projekt RED, since they don't look like the type to be afraid of experimenting with meaningful PvP, social structure, difficult combat, guild and player housing, etc. The genre really needs that right now.

But I don't think the Witcher world is suitable for a MMO. No matter what BioWare would have you believe, it's not a genre suited for storytelling. It's about players interacting with each other and the environment, and just a loosely-defined world with a few fantasy or sci-fi tropes thrown in works perfectly.

HOWEVER I am unsure whether the dreadful, immutable nature of MMO's would do justice to the source material. Unless a serious mechanism for C&C is somehow introduced to MMO's, such a game won't have the most appealing element of The Witcher series.

I don't have to think about it. I have played MMORPG's in the past but always solo. I don't play well with others.

I guess the world of The Witcher would be a suitable setting for a MMORPG. I still wouldn't play it if it got made, though, because I don't play MMORPGs, and generally play very little online stuff. And if somebody decides to add "The Witcher Online" or somesuch to the endless list of WoW's victims (because this would fail miserably even if it's good, and you know it), I hope it's not CDPR that does it because it would tie up all their resources, potentially destroy the company, and we'd never see another SP Witcher game.

So in conclusion, thanks, but no thanks, and get the fuck out of my office.

...NO!!!

There are enough MMORPGs around to keep MMO lovers engaged, and way too little quality single player RPGs. Let The Witcher be the latter...

Besides, I just can't understand how, after having played the Witcher games, anyone can think they would make a good MMO. I thought the story, characters, emotions, dark tone, maturity and political tensions were the strengths of the games. None of these will translate well into an MMO. MMOs are about running around killing everything, leveling and then killing everything again.

No. Next question.

Seriously though, I would pay so that there would not be a Witcher MMORPG out there. MMOs are franchise killers; either they fail, and investors lose interest in the intellectual property, especially one that is not already massively popular like Star Wars or Conan the Barbarian, or they succeed and eat the franchise alive, with all the money that might have gone to new games going to further development of the MMO. How many Warcraft games has there been after WoW came out?

If this ever came to be i'd go into GAME rip every copy off the shelves, burn them, stamp upon the smouldering ashes, bury them in a lead lined casket six feet under and then dance the Macarena upon that spot until the soil was nicely compacted. I'd then enact a cunning scheme to take control of the worlds supply of nuclear warheads and unleash them upon that spot at five minute intervals, purging all life from the surrounding earth until the world cracks open and molten magma consumes them.

Okay a few billion lives would be lost but I think that's a small price to pay, to deny fuckwits the opportunity to ruin our favourite franchise.

So in summary, No.

No, probably not.
Possibly if they managed to make it story driven in some way and if people could only play as simple soldiers or scouts.
Everything else just causes power-inflation and ruins the lore.
