Hmmm some people seem to have snarky or sarcastic reactions towards me saying to think about your answer rather than just saying no. I mean I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers or tell anyone what to do. I'm not even saying the Witcher should have an MMO. I only meant that responses about why you would or wouldn't want an MMO and why it would or wouldn't work are more interesting than simply yes or no answers. Just looking for a discussion :).

It's a gut reaction, like if someone walked into your house, looked at your favorite chair, and was like, "Hey, you should get one in leather." Of course, you love your chair the way it is, so it's only natural to kick them out, tell them where they can shove that leather, then burn down their house.

Extreme, but 'tis the price of love.

I didn't mean any harm by it either. So, to anyone I annoyed, I apologize.

There is no need to apologize. We would however be very interested to learn, if after reading some of our comments, you see why it is a definitive NO.

Oh yeah, I do understand. Some very interesting and informative responses. I, personally, wouldn't want an MMO either. The reson I made this thread is because the Witcher actually reminded me of how an MMO usually is in terms of gameplay. Wanted to start a discussion.

ok i thought about this since last night, and my answer is still NO! Not because I don't love the series, and some of the ideas offered here have merit- but realistically, MMOs are dreadful. I have played five different ones between releases of SP RPG s that I wanted, and the social aspect is a nice benefit, but overall, they are all lacking a cohesive storyline. All of them have a model that lacks the ability to become a part of the story, in favor of grinding your way to that top- level gear or competition to the top of the rankings lists. To me this is diametrically opposed to the goals we have in the Witcher series. ( yes, we all want that top gear, but at least we can actually get it in SP game format.) Every MMO i have ever played had an expansion that ruined the skill trees, the gears, the potions, and the economies. In short, they do not do a good job of staying with the story development. Add to this, the games generally become supersaturated with tween players who just don't have enough life experience to behave in a social setting or realistically keep an artificial economy stable, and you have the crux of the myriad reasons I hope we never ever see a Witcher MMO offering.

I would try it, then abandon it after 2-3 weeks. Just like every other MMO I ever tried with the exception of WoW (my friends and guildmates kept me playing, but it wasn't even playing, more like chatting while watching movies or surfing the internet)

i was thinking about this last night actually.

only problem, witchers powers would be so watered down, to allow for many people to play; and have it be enough of a challenge, to encourage alot of people to play it.

not to mention, witchers are supposed to be pretty rare. if there were a ton of generic ones running about, it screws with the continuity of sapkowski's world, not to mention the ratio of witchers to monsters would be all screwed up.

more witchers SHOULD equal less monsters right? kinda like hunters to deer type of thing, in real life.

idk if this game would be a good candidate, personally.

Even if they added additional classes ect. you would still end up with a tank.. An archer or ranged type charactor and a healer. It may sound different but in the end the function of them would be the same. and MMO people would play it the same way. They certainly do in the Old Republic. overall the formula is ALWAYS the same. I mean WOW people went into the Old Republic and had no issues with gameplay once they determined the function of each class. and you see troopers or smugglers questing with Jedi. and Bounty Hunters Ect questing with Sith Inquisitors or warriors. honestly aside from the Star wars concept- cut scenes and dialogue options, there is not a hell of a lot of difference in the way you approach it. than there is the way you approach WOW.

You alternate between spamming lightning or force storm and your lightsaber forms. almost like running a Hunter in WOW. But it could potentially become a cash cow. but like TOR it would effectively end single player PC or console Witcher games. The company would have to concentrate fully on the MMO and patches for it ect. No telling how many Bioware& EA people work on the TOR. and sometimes you have to wait an hour before a server clears and you can play the game.

I do however understand the appeal to many people, they get to play online and share the experience of the world with their friends. But I absolutely agree with the person above who stated that TOR should have continued as a single player game. Most everything I loved about playing KOTOR was lost in the Massive Multi world.

Not a fact.

Some of the best gaming moments I've ever had are because of MMO's. Wiping my guild by mistake is still the funniest thing that ever happened to me in WoW.

I would like to see CDPR tackle an MMO but not themepark MMO. Look at CCP they do their own thing and they made a fantastic game. Eve Online is incredibly unique and I'm very excited for World of Darkness and Dust 514 because like Witcher 2 their games are for niche players.

Well me either, but probably what OP wanted to ask it's that The Witcher franchise would be in fact suitable to a MMORPG format.

I hate schedule my game-time with other people.
I also like to be able to play without be connected to internet.

So, I don't play MMORPGs ...

What I do like are LAN parties.
If they release the server too I may think on it
