Would you want Insane difficulty in the W3?

The reason I ask is because after I finally wrestled the W2 in insane difficulty I found it hard to fully enjoy other games (as far as 100% immersion goes) because other games don't feature permadeath. Dead Space 2's top difficulty came close but it still doesn't compare to the W2 insane mode.

I sincerely hope that the third game will feature the same difficulty level (shouldn't be too hard to implement). There is something really eerily morbid and satisfyingly intense about the all or nothing efforts that may result in death in a split second. You almost become one with the character and the danger of your character actually dying is something that very few games, if any, implemented. In the W2 my palms got sweaty with almost each encounter and my heart rate increased. Needless to say I was able to generate more adrenaline than when I was playing "Slender" or "Penumbra", "HL2's Nightmare House 2" or some other decent horror game.

My only fear is that CDPK may think that very few would venture to play the game on such a difficulty given its scale. However what about the 4th, 5th, 6th or whatever playthroughs?

I hope that enough people talk about it or request it to warrant support for this feature.

I'm all for options. Although TW2 was in no way designed to support a permadeath option (stun-locks after cutscenes with sheated sword, extreme luck-based draug pre-fight) I like that it was included. Implementation of it is very easy. Designing the whole game with it in mind and making sure it is a "fair" difficulty would take more than just flipping a switch and implementing a savegame/profile remove.
If anyone that voted "no" would like to explain why it would be a bad idea ?

Poll is somewhat strange. Is it about having an option, or actually wanting to use it? As one of the difficulty settings, why not? I would not mind. Do I want it? No.

It seems easy enough to implement, so I say go for it if they really want to. But imagine playing Skyrim for 80 hrs on a setting as hard as TW2. I think even the most hardcore gamers would grow weary of that. TW2's relatively tight structure and small areas make the mechanic much more feasible.

I would assume one would come hand in hand with the other. I guess it's more about having an option.

I would prefer if the difficulty of the game wasn't also increased ridiculously when perma death was enabled.

But yeah, I don't see why the option can't be there.

Yeah, imagine if your PC got a cramp from all that hiking and had nowhere to go, the nearest town being miles and miles away. The night would come and the wolves devour him. A tragic end to a promising hiking career. Game over.

Why would you even say No to this. The flaw with Insane is that you can pause during battle which meant you can load an earlier save to avoid death. You shouldn't be allowed to pause during combat.

There should also be a ONE SAVEFILE MODE

Where you only get one save file per playthrough and the game constantly autosaves so you can't just load to a chapter ago if you didn't like the consequence of a decisions you made.

the PC should be punished for not limbering up before hiking. Enjoy death.

Yes why not? I won't be playing it myself more over considering the vast scale of the game, but doesn't mean there shouldn't be for those who don't enjoy it!

heck I would have suggested just keep one difficulty: dark (like the AC games but they are actually very easy besides a few hiccups at some moments) and have an option to have perma death on/off. Well I'm not going to say that otherwise I'm gonna get lot of backslash for it...

OOPs :p

THIS. I can't believe I didn't think of that myself.
Also Heavy Rain and Infamous did that one save file mode - which was the default mechanic of the game.

Yeah we should be able to set the basic difficulty mode, and then check or uncheck one savefile and perma death modes for all levels of difficulty.

I would never use it, but it should definitely exist. I wouldn't have thought it would be difficult to implement as they seem to have managed it OK in TW2, and I assume that most of the coding for something like this would be similar.

And yes, keeping it separate from the difficulty levels also makes sense. That way if there's new super-hardcore difficulties introduced later, either by CDPR or through mods, they can also be played in insane mode.

I would never dare touch it as my never couldn't. So in general, yes. Personally, no.

I'm all for having the option because why not, but as I stated in another thread I don't think TW2 was a game built to be enjoyable with permadeath, as there were far too many chances of cheap unavoidable deaths not depending from the skill level of the player, which is something you should definitely avoid in a game that can go on for dozens of hours.

That said, I would prefer permadeath to be a toggle, not tied to a specific difficulty level. Being unable to enjoy insane difficulty until Dark Mode was patched in was a bummer for me.

It would be moronic of “CDPK” ( :p ) not to implement this kind of difficulty mode. After all, it seems easy enough to do so and, as you yourself beautifully explained, it adds immensely to the experience of people who enjoy the tension that it leads to.

Well, what other games make you feel that with one wrong move you'd have to start the game over again? The maximum tension you're gonna get is "oh man, if I die I'll have to replay the last checkpoint" or "oh man, it's been awhile since I pressed F5". Immersion with the character you're playing is one thing, of course many games do that, but the actual danger of having to start over is extremely unheard of. Maybe it's just me

I think it should be a tickbox along with Insane mode.

You can choose to play Insane or OneSaveFile mode in all the difficulties.

I voted yes but only if combat is good and not like TW2 combat.
