Xbox one- Is it worth trying to play this game yet?

I would say if you have a PC or an Xbox 360, play Witcher 1 or 2 instead, because Witcher 3 is nowhere near worth playing right now. I thought the unstable framerates during cutscenes was disappointing until the "You cannot save" bug hit me. Now, I'd be just happy if the game were flawed, but working. The game is broken, unless you want to turn Standby mode on your Xbox One off and manually save your game every 10-15 minutes for fear of losing all progress.

I was an idiot and preordered the game + expansions from Microsoft Live, so I've basically invested ~75 USD into a product that I don't know when I will be actually receiving. Because right now, the 33~ gigs occupying my Xbox One HD for Witcher 3 is not a functioning product. If I could do it over again, I would probably wait three months and read the post patch reviews to see if the major issues for the game have been worked out and then decide on whether to purchase.

That's what I should have done, but I got TW3 and the expansion pass for my birthday. I basically got what is currently a turd-on-a-disc, until the game is made to be playable again, lol.

I believe the "Quality Control Guys/Gals" should personally come by our houses and apologize; I'm not sure if I would except their apology; I may just decide to kick
them in their nards.

Turn off standby mode and the save issue seems to go away. You'll need that because the fighting glitches get you killed over and over in some places so you'll have to reload constantly. I especially detest how geralt ends up in holes and can't jump in combat, plus can't roll, run, or fight his way out. Then there's the glitches of crashing going through portals, the glitches of characters being fragmented and remaining in place after they move, the glitches of items disappearing from your storage, and the slow fps rate. I can only think that their "testers" are either way overpaid or the programmers are too stuck up to listen to them. I was excited for this release, but now I'm chagrined. I went ahead and told my friends on the Destiny forum to avoid this game for the nonce. I do hope that they fix it, but if not, Elder Scrolls comes out next month and there's plenty more forums where I can tell people how bad the glitches are in this game.

What's unfortunate is that I can tell that this was a project into which the designers put a TON of love, time, and effort. Unfortunately, the engineers / coders / playtesters utterly failed to deliver on the vision.

It's ironic that Adam Kicinski, the CEO of CDProjektRed justified the delay of WItcher 3 saying that "[The] market is afraid of badly polished games on next-gem platforms" and that "[they] don't want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay." Until this point, I really trusted CDProjektRed to be different from other companies, which is why I didn't even think twice before investing in the preorder. I really didn't think that buying the game digitally from Microsoft would be a risk at all, despite the fact that they don't have that unconditional 31 day money-back guarantee GOG.com does.

Unfortunately, I was terribly wrong. And while I hope that this was just one giant mistake on part of CDProjektRed and that they'll do what's right for the people who are still waiting for an actual product while they and Microsoft hold our money ransom, the cynic in me feels that given that the game has probably exceeded sales expectations and that the reviews are raving across the board on major publications, I shouldn't expect any more from them in fear of more disappointment.

If I consider games like Assassin's Creed : Unity, Halo Master Chief Collection, and Batman : Arkham Origin, which were all severely broken upon release and patched numerous times, it doesn't bode well for Witcher 3. Months after release, AC : Unity never managed to fix its framerate issues and Halo MC Collection continues to try to improve its multiplayer issues. As for Batman : Arkham Origin, the studio just surrendered after two patches, blatantly declaring that it would work on DLC development rather than resolve remaining issues in the original game.

Just so that I don't find myself even more angry, upset, and disappointed, I'm going to temper my expectations and just hope that in a few months, Witcher 3 will be a passable experience of a game, rather than the spectacular experience I had expected it to be before its release. And I'm going to hope that the designers and visionaries behind Witcher 3 sever their ties with Microsoft and/or the people who worked on the Microsoft release so they can find a group of technicians / coders who can actually deliver the experience they had hoped to provide gamers.

Because sadly, Witcher 3 on the Xbox One is a "badly polished game on a next-gen console."

I use the quick resume feature on standby and haven't run into the save issue. A few minor quest bugs and the judder motion is all so far.

Right now I'd say you should hold off on buying the game. On XB1, with 60 hours in....all my saves seem to crash the game. I'm PRAYING that a patch fixes this.

That said, this game is a masterpiece and I love it through and through....but I'm really scared that 2 and a half days of my life just got wasted on something I'll have to start over from scratch. And yes, starting over wouldn't kill me....but there were so many moments that were amazing. Places I accidentally stumbled on to to find treasure, some battles with levels 10 higher than me and took 20 minutes to beat...gwent games where I got REALLY lucky. I won't be able to replicate that experience if they don't fix it.

Honestly until the save issue is fixed I would greatly avoid starting in on this game. It is a massively devastating issue.

i am right there with you buddy. after taking the time to run around searching for treasures and gear i cant load any of my saves without the game crashing back to the home screen :(

Yeah, definitely. Made the mistake of trying the only save that works for me...ran around and cleared out 3 monster nests (after 60 hours of gameplay i had no idea you can loot them after they blow up!) ....and lost it all. Again.

Hang in there and keep up hope :)

Good news, guys!

1.) CDProjektRed is continuing to show its gratitude to us by releasing DLC for a base game that's broken. Yay!

2.) While not being able to play my broken copy of Witcher 3 on Xbox One, for which Microsoft and CDProjektRed have ransomed my money without consent, I came upon news that two months after the game's release, Gearbox had finally released a patch successfully fixing The Borderlands Handsome Collection's terrible framerate(s). What does this have to do with CDProjektRed and Witcher 3? There's hope for those of us who are sitting on 33 gigs of wasted hard drive space on our consoles!

Two months from now, we might have something that resembles a working copy of Witcher 3!
