Sorry but I have to stop you right there. Crossbows in the Witcher world were there IN THE NOVELS. They were even called "Gabriels" after the inventor. They're famous among merchant caravans.
Horses will be nice cause it's an open world and it will be necessary for traversal, not to mention the fact that horses play a massive part in the novels. Geralt always names his horses the same, Roach. Dandelion had a lazy mare called Pegasus. As for combat on horseback, it'd be pretty lame to not be able to defend yourself if you come across bandits or aggressive fauna.
All that said, if a developer comes out and says it was an odd lighting artifice, then we'll just have to take them on their word or don't and see for ourselves come February.
