The whole Triss or Yen thing.
Hey people, appreciate this is probably been covered to death but wanted to throw my two cents in because I like to.
Just finished Wither 3 and without going into spoilers for everyone I was just miffed at the total lack of Triss in the entirety of Act 3 despite her being my love interest this play through and generally being an overall much more likeable character than Yenner. Disliked Yen for the following reasons;
1) Gives you the cold shoulder after all those years because of your dalliances with Triss of which she can only know second hand about (and Triss wasn't the only dalliance by far). DESPITE I might add that you already know from Letho that when SHE had amnesia from escaping the Hunt she tried to seduce one of Letho's companion witchers. (Albeit I believe purely for her own selfish ends).
2) Did not think that maybe you and or Triss would like to know she is alive after all these years and instead chooses to hide away in Nilfgard because she is making her own plans and is apparently mad from at best second hand hearsay.
3) Shows up at Kaer Morhen and starts telling everyone what to do as if she owns the place. Generally seems to have zero manners like with Ermion etc.
4) The whole necromancy thing, if you played it you know what I mean and I doubt I was the only one that found that extremely unsettling the lengths she was willing to go to. (Dethmold anyone?)
However I will say that over Triss she does seem to have a confidence and trust in Geralt and Ciri that Triss seems to lack, her responses often to when they have ran off and done something dangerous is well you didn't fail so who cares? Also I do not know about anyone else but Triss never mentioning or reminding you of Yen knowing you had amnesia seemed really odd to me. Especially in W2 where she knows you are trying to get your memories back. Felt a little like if she really cared about you she would be honest.
In general felt like there needed to be at least one candid discussion about your love choices with them all there. It felt the tension with Triss and Yen was building after I told Triss I love her and Yen that the magic was gone and yet they never have it out in front of you. I totally get that a hissy cat fight over you might undermine their strong female characters, but they really should of been arguing over the betrayal of friendship. I got the impression Yen was more mad that Triss had betrayed her, more than the fact she was sleeping with Geralt. Felt like the tension was born of breaking of trust and that Triss feels bad and guilty but does it anyway because she is selfish in her own way too. Just needed something with maybe depending on certain actions earlier and dialogue choices it can end in them staying friends or hating one another etc and that having a real impact in missions like the defending of Kaer Morhen and the final battle.
Felt like why Triss and Geralt split from w2 (if you chose to romance her at all) was not even really covered. The impression I got was Geralt was like I HAVE TO FIND YEN and Triss decided to step aside. A little annoying that you as the player character of Geralt and therefore the chooser of his fate, get no say in it but only really needed a small dialogue when you catch up with Triss or even with Yen asking why Triss isn't with you to explain exactly what happened.
(MINOR SPOILERS) Also as an aside, was a little disappointed that my decision in W2 to go with Iorveth and help Saskia get free of the lodge seemed to have zero impact on w3 other than learning early on that Aedern was crushed. No idea if they are alive, on the run, living happily together. Would of been nice to have at least a Iorveth cameo with one of the pockets of scoia'tael that are about.
I dunno, really loved this game, one of the best I ever played and really appreciate that you cannot have everything but just seemed like Triss was slapped on in the end content with nothing to say or do or even a cut scene of them embracing etc. And there is plenty from W2 that just seemed to not matter at all or even come up. Why bother saving Saskia if she doesn't even come and dragon burn some Hunt for you?
