You SHOULD read books! Here is why!

Of course, to understand the backstory and the lore better blah blah...
But I noticed that a few of the books unlock some bestiary entries when u read them. I was reading every single book I came across till now in an inn in Oxenfurt. It seems I unlocked 4 new monsters in bestiary. Never even knew they were in the game!

I actually didn't know that since I've been getting most of my Bestiary entries by just fighting. Good to know they carried over that nice feature from the other two games.

Its helpful too! Coz, u only unlock the bestiary once u kill the monster for the first time. I had tough time with a werewolf when I first fought it, as I had no idea what its weakness was. Unlocked it only after I killed it.

You could learn about beasts from the books since Witcher 1. I guess its your first Witcher game.

Those who played the first two games already knew that.

Glad you only have to kill a monster once to unlock its bestiary now. I recall having to kill monsters x number of times in previous games in order to unlock its bestiary if you didn't read its book.

This is wise, there are some monsters that are quite a surprise to find -- and kick your arse if you're unprepared.
