You work for the police too much in this game

you shouldn't be able to join a faction because you belong to the faction of free and independent mercenaries, but you definitely should be able to gain one faction's trust by helping them a lot and getting on other factions' bad sides by slaughtering their men. If they had invested in proper Witcher style dialogue based quests, this would be doable. Or, if you manage to complete an objective without being detected, you should be rewarded for it by your fixer with better jobs, whereas if you get detected, the gang starts hunting for you or something. And if you have higher street cred, they wouldn't dare go after you...and so on. Lots of wasted potential.

It's opposite. Jackie and other said, higher you climb, more people want your head. It means you should be expected to be ambushed by the people, who wants to get the fame.
It would be funny, if you are chilling somewhere in city and suddenly random gangster out of nothing are behind you and do stabbing/shooting to your back.

I personally dislike this approach for the protagonist. This has been set for this game's plot, but I expect leeway and being permitted to join some sub-factions down the line in further content additions.

Even if it's on a "freelance" basis. This would encourage these groups to work with you and offer you missions specific to them later or hinder you if you decide to work with their rivals.

It's not like you are part of a specific gang whatsoever. You work as Merc, so anybody with €$ can hire you. Tiger Claws want a specific NCPD-Detective dead? okay gimme my Eddies. NCPD wants this sector cleared of Tiger Claws. Anything for Eddies. It's not that you are part of a faction. You side with everybody who has the money to hire you. Of course it would be a great feature to team up with a specific gang or the NCPD itself and therefore you get specific world activities but I don't see the actual world events as lore unfriendly.

as much as ncpd missions there are

i kinda wished we'd atleast have maxtac related quest (like the game already has, locked in the files)

exploring night city akine to "judge dredd" would have been awesome
the judge, jury and executioners of night city...

The NCPD gigs also very basic, its just some mooks milling about and you take them out and then collect some loot and there is a shard explaining what is going on. A shard. Just some text to maybe read or dont. Nobody to interact with or talk to or help.

Don't game like Vanilla Skyrim does this a lot? instead of "?" it's a landmark? like a random Necromancer camping the altar or cave with books that contain lore why he/she in that situation? Bandit camp respawning for the radiant quest.

Any example of open-world games that do a great job implementing something like gigs?

I dunno, I'm not a huge gamer. Maybe the kidnapped firefighters in Arkham Knight? Its the same basic set up, but at the end of each one Batman at least interacts with someone and eventually realizes something suspicious was going on with the fires they were dealing with (you have no ability to roleplay that and determine clues on your own it is simply scripted). They're also not all listed on the map from the start but reveal as you enter new areas and the game progresses.

Well as a fan whos subbded 2000ad to read the adventures of judge dredd and anderson(my personal favourite) i based my look on a judge look as best i could with armor sets ingame.
What this game needs is not to join a faction necessarily but a reputation system and bounty system, i dont mind if gang xx hates me because i judged loads of them before , again its something didnt have time to really do indpeth before launch

Exactly, I don't like cops (in game) so why should I help them? My character hates cops and they apparently hate me more. But if I don't do their jobs I don't get experience and shit. Like there is even a mission where you act as therapist for a cop that is depressed... Are you kidding me CDPR?!!

Why are cops so bad at catching criminals but are so good at catching us? I feel like they have tracking device for everything we do.

NCPD are the provider of these crime reports most of the times AKA some of the blue icons stuffs, what do you expects??
Also, the blue boxes are more about smaller side quests that not even related to NCPD directly, unlike the crime events from the blue skulls & the blue bat icons.

Meanwhile, almost all side quests, gigs, & yellow discoveries are from "non-NCPD" reports. So I think it's pretty much balanced. You can simply ignored the semi randomly generated blue bat icons & lose practically nothing (except maybe harder to farm XP).

It would be true only if it had consequences. Like when a crime is commited you can often see some gang people threatening a random NPC, sometimes I kill them before they kill the NPC, sometimes the NPC dies, and well it makes no difference. Oh yes, sometimes I can hear the NPC saying "thank you". Amazing. And killing the gang members makes no difference neither. If all these small events and the way you decide to deal with it had some effects, even small, for exemple on your relationship with the police and with the gangs, or even something else, it would make a huge difference, and would be so much more immersive, you would feel that you are part of the city. Here it's just pointless and becomes very boring very fast, outside of the quests nothing makes you feel you are part of this world and none of your choices matters.

People previously said that it shouldn't be compared to GTA, I never played any GTA, I don't care about that, I just bought cyberpunk to play an RPG. I remember the first time my gf played Skyrim, at the very begining she saw a farm, wanted to kill a chicken to have fun, people in the village started to be angry and attacked her, she killed someone while defending herself, a guard showed up and she had to go to jail. It was funy and quite exagerate reactions but it stated clearly that you can't do anything you want without consequences. In CP it's just the opposite, nothing you can do has any consequences. I love playing this game for so many reasons, but this is something I miss too much, I thought I would be playing this game for a very long time but if they don't fix at least a part of these issues at one point, it will just become a fun and beautiful adventure game I played once and will forget about it...

I think it seems some players seems unable to see the distinction with this. Everything you wanted actually existed in the game & actually a lot. Like really a lot.
Here is the differences between the blue icons (open world):
+ Blue Bat: Assault In Progress. Neutralize the perps and secure evidence. This is a SEMI RANDOM Events that would appear continuously (maybe endlessly) in some rather specific parts of the map.
+ Blue Star: NCPD vs Crime encounters. You basically "voluntarily" helping the cops to resolve the gun fight. This is also SEMI RANDOM Events that would appear continuously/endlessly in some rather specific parts of the map.
+ Blue Skull: Organized Crime Activity. Basically like Assault in Progress, but way harder (more enemies) & you basically fight a whole gang while in operation.
+ Blue Box: Reported Crime. Neutralize any ongoing threat and secure evidence. This is a FIXED events & will not generated. This is the "secretly" gigs that player found exploring. There are actually some small stories within this events, both from shards & some dialogues.
+ Blue Borg Skull: Cyberpsycho Sighting. Boss fights against Night City’s cyber-enhanced nightmares. This is also a FIXED events & will not generated. Basically Regina Jones quests. This has more elaborated quests & encounters, even some of them actually very intriguing to the whole plots & lore of the game. I think this is a must to finish for player, just like the yellow icons.

Meanwhile for yellow icons, I would argue all of them (includes all the gigs) actually very much integral to the whole stories, world, & lore itself. This is where Night City stories exist & choices do matter or more impactful. Most of the rare items like iconic weapons are in this quests.

and then there are SECRET ENCOUNTER stuffs. Basically some hidden quests & places that CDPR intentionally keep hidden with no icons or reveals whatsoever. It appears so far only some of it managed to be in public (recorded) & some still hidden. This based on Pawel Sasko (quest designer dev) recent tweet:

orange gig quest markers can be identified by visiting fixers.. you will instantly see a type of gig they give on your map instead of just a questionmark..

In Night City the cops are awful too. And there is no gigs to do anything about them.

The secret encounters are just locations with dead people recreating a scene from a movie or tv show or videogame. The hidden quests are quite minimal: finding Bartmoss body, the Tiger Claw motorbike, the cat, etc

"Cop" was one of the core classes of Cyberpunk 2020, if people have forgotten that. I recall CDPR stating that they wanted to give a flavor of all the lifepaths from the original 2020 tabletop game, even if they weren't dedicated lifepaths. Hence we get a load of NCPD side missions and River's questline. The police aren't a natural enemy in Cyberpunk - I've not had to fight them once.

The cops are just an inevitability, and their lack of funding and corrupt leadership means letting mercs handle crimes for them is beneficial for them, the mercs and the people. A solution evolved from needs.

It's established in the lore that the NCPD has been defunded and given corporate leadership - which immediately laid off tons of cops and forced cops to write tickets instead of patrolling high crime areas. This resulted in a huge crime spike and a huge spike in demand for private security - exactly what the wealthy elite of Night City wanted. The cops are being fucked by the government and the corps, and will do whatever they can to try keep a handle on law and order despite everything working against them.

The lore books reference the fact that the brutality and corruption of NCPD officers mostly comes from the frustration of their helplessness, corrupt superiors, high stress job and danger of their job. 1 NCPD officer dies for every 10 criminals killed, with 200 criminals killed a month, at least.

The NCPD will take what help they can get - as a merc, there's no reason not to take on their jobs for some cash.

I do agree however, it'd have been nice to unlock some cop gear as rewards. The "badge" outfit we can collect is cool and all, but I was really hoping to wear the same sort of NCPD uniform the NPC cops wear, driving 'round in an NCPD cruiser, sirens blaring.

Funny after reading and posting in this thread I played the game some more and I talked to a gang npc that said something about street cred being everything.

Also there's a side story that touches on why V might deal with the cops.

But in the course of the game it's made ptetty clear that V for the most part is a gun for hire above all else
Which side story are you referring to? River Ward's quests or the quest for Barry at your megabuilding?

Working for any gangs in this game is massively problematic because they are all engaged in the most heinous shit imaginable - snuff porn, human trafficking, extortion, racketeering and it is all maintained with an unhealthy dose of murder, rape and torture, usually targeted at civilians who can't or won't fight back.

You do not work for the NCPD in Cyberpunk 2077. The NCPD is overwhelmed by the amount of crime in the city and the ferocity with which gangs fight for power. They are completely outnumbered and outgunned by gangoons who are better described as paramilitaries. They have assault weapons and grenades!

So what the NCPD do is admit they can't fight crime alone. They run open comms and sanction vigilante behaviour by offering bounties on the worst, most heavily armed criminals. As a lone merc, this is very convenient. You get get paid to put some evil motherfuckers down. The NCPD look the other way. The city is hopefully a safer place for a civilian to walk around at night.

Police is pretending you never accidently run over a few dozens of pedestrians if you can hunt down OP cyberpsychos they cannot take down. You have street credit, are a merc, da police hates and loves you at the same time. Police respawning to take you down ever time you commit a crime is sort of a reminder that you're still not above the law.
Everytime we commit a crime and managed to run away from the police, our police cred could go down and make the police chases more and more difficult, depending on your level of xp we'd be able to run away from them or not.

NCPD are understaffed. The call is for Sub-cons ...Subcontractors. You're not obligated to take them. They're essentially bounties.

It irritates me that jobs for the NCPD outnumber all other jobs by 4000%.

If you interrupt an assault I'd prefer it was because you were working for one of the gangs against another gang or V has just decided to intervene because it's a chance to rob his/her fellow criminals or they envision themselves as Night City Batman.

Aiden Pearce, God help me for using him as an example, worked as a car thief and hitman while moonlighting as a vigilante. Which was either bad game design or something so insane that it was actually genius.

I feel like you're a poor cyberpunk if you've done literally hundreds of bounty hunting jobs.

mercs aren't really criminals. any more than corporations are anyhow. People work for ncpd because they pay you. You can ignore it, most exp comes from main quests, and can make more money selling random crap, or crafted crap.
