Your Games Of The Year?

So I think this is one of the forums, Possible the best I've ever been too and I would like to see what's your games of the year, Disappointments and GOTY's, And surprises... Games you did not expect yet surprised you when they came out. Since we are in The Witcher forums I guess No.1 is pretty darn obvious, But write it anyway.

Let's see... My GOTY's are...

1. The Witcher 2 - Duh.
2. Deus Ex : Human Revolution - Although a bit over-rated, Defiantly deserves the second place IMO.
3. Portal 2 - Not an RPG, But a great game with fantastic characters.

Honorable mentions / Surprises:

Bastion - A great indie Action RPG, Not much story and choices but still very good and some neat design ideas.
Hard Reset - Nothing like a good old school shooter mechanics

Disappointments:

Duke Nukem Forever - Just expected more after such a long time in development, Much more.
Dragon Age 2 - One of the best cash grab from EA and BioWare.
RAGE - Turned to be a repetitive game and unplayable over a month after It's release.

Feel free of course to add any category you'd like in your post.

Great thread!

Let me get the ball rolling with my pics:

GOTY:
1. Uncharted 3 - brilliant in every aspect, do I need to say more?
2. Dead Space 2 - Amazing game, enhanced everything that was good in the first part and added some other elements, only letdown was lack of bosses
3. NBA 2K12 - Best basketball game ever!

Honorable Mentions:
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 - Yes I'm a fanboy:)

Surprises:

Dead Island - game caught me off guard, I wasn't expecting too much but it surprised the hell out of me. Still playing it.
Lego Harry Potter: Years 5–7 - This game is a true successor to all the great platformers from back in the day (Mario, Crash, etc.)

Disappointments:

L.A. Noire - I was hyped for this game but unfortunately had to force myself to finish it. Started off good but couldn't keep up proper pace.

Aside from the obvious answers and things already mentioned, Saints Row 3 was a huge surprise. It seemed like it would be weird based on the commercials, but there's really no conveying how hilariously and awesomely weird it gets.

My biggest disappointment was definitely Crysis 2. Suddenly the aliens are bipedal, gun-wielding idiots? Okay, that's dumb, but I could have lived with that if it was the only thing working against it. Sadly, everything felt consolized, it was far more linear and on-rails than the original Crysis, and the story was so formulaic and stupid that at one point the sweeping orchestral music kicked in and I exclaimed out loud, "Is the game trying to manipulate me into thinking this is an epic moment? This is fucking stupid." If I was stranded in the mountains during winter and the only way to keep warm would be to set fire to a stack of Crysis 2 games, I wouldn't do it. It doesn't deserve to keep me warm. Such is my hatred of this game.

GOTY: Batman: Arkham City - it would be a great game, even if it wasn't about Batman. But it is about him so it's my choice #1
Battlefield 3 Multiplayer - I don't get enaugh of it
Limbo - just watch the gameplay.

Surprise:
Dead Island - I thought it will be very lame. It is glitchy, doesn't have a real story - just like the game I list below as a disappointment. But compared with that game, it gave me a lot of fun.

Disappointments
Not really a disapointment, because after Oblivion I didn't expect much. My disappointment of the year is Skyrim. Woa... An open world, so enormous! So what? Nothing happens there. You can do anything you want! So what - if I don't feel any connection with this boaring world. Most overrated game of the year. Bethesda should concentrate on the Fallout series, I loved Fallout 3.

I haven't played many games released in 2011, so this list is pretty much everything I've played.

Untouchable:
The Witcher 2

GOTY:
1. Gray Matter
2. LIMBO
3. Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute

Technically, Gray Matter was released in late 2010, but only in Germany, so I'm going to count it :p I don't even know why I liked it so much, it was flawed and way too easy, but there was that 'something' about it. The soundtrack brainwashed me completely and I've had one of the tracks as my morning alarm for over a year now. Heh.

I haven't finished LIMBO yet, but it's beautiful and I'm so happy PC gamers can finally play it. Very subtle and atmospheric.

Lastly, Professor Layton is amazing as always! Lots of great puzzles to keep your brain on top of its game *_*

Honourable Mention:
Portal 2

All I can say, it's a solid game. It's simply what Portal would have been if it were an actual, full game, and not a concept.

Surprise:
TRAUMA

It's a lovely little indie game and you can play it in full here: http://www.traumagame.com (yes, it's the complete game, in highest quality possible). It's best if you keep your mind open and your lights low; the actual "story" might be a bit disappointing, but the journey is what counts.

Yeah, Whatever:
Skyrim

You didn't see that one coming, did you? :p I had no expectations for it, so I can't label it as "disappointment", and it was definitely a step up from Oblivion - and a step back to Morrowind. Streamlined, with old mechanics and little new content. I eventually quit it because it felt too limiting (it's supposed to be my story, yet I can't side with 'bad' guys if I want? Yeah, no.) and ultimately, nothing you do has ANY effect. So you're the archmage, master thief, dragonborn, greatest leader this world has ever known? Congratulations, nobody gives a plough.

The Witcher 2 of course

1. Warhammer 40000 Dawn of War: Retribution (love multiplayer and whole series)
2. Fable III (not a fan of being a prince or a king but I still like the looks and the feeling)
3. Batman: Arkham City (strange I don't like Batman but the game was nice)
4. Heroes VI Might and Magic

I really like Skyrim but for some reason its nowhere near my games of the year.

Disappointments

Dragon Age 2 (simply sucks nothing to add more)
Dark Souls (expected more than mindless killing)

Winner: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Runner-up: Dark Souls

Games yet to be played that could stand a chance at altering the outcome include Catherine, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Xenoblade.

Games that are most definitely not going to end up on the list of this year's finest include Dragon Age 2, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Game of the year: Assassins of Kings, a beautiful game with a deep personal storyline, choices that shape the world around you and the most vibrant characters ever brought to pc. A triumph of both substance and style, a real slap in the face for traditional developers intent on streamlining their games and abandoning their loyal customer base.

Honourable mention: Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Skyrim. Because single player rpgs aren't profitable and are largely becoming irrelevant in modern gaming, yeah well kiss my hairy arse, these two beauties along with the witcher prove that all that's becoming irrelevant are the developers spouting such shit.

Surprise: Amnesia. Damn this would make a bloody kick arse rpg, these dudes ought to be making the next thief game.

Dissapointment: Dragon Age 2. What can be said, a dull grey repetitive slog through an illogical tale of a loser who does not even try to do anything when faced with adversity. Stupid choices that always lead to the same illogical consequences, it's a barely interactive combat and conversation simulator, harmful to the genre as a whole. Die and rot you cutesy bag of shite.

Sorry the festivities have me in a bad mood.

My only true favorite of the year:
Witcher 2 - not just my favorite, but a truly awesome, untouchable game.

My huge disappointment of the year:
Being a great fan of the original Dragon Age: Origins,Dragon Age 2 was stupid. Does Bioware think we are stupid to keep buying that kind of garbage?

My hopefuls for next year:
Any DLC CDPR might diegn to give us out of the Witcher World, and

Mass Effect 3, though I'm very leary of Bioware, at this point in time.

Game(s) of the year:
None, I have many of them. Probably The Witcher 2 though. Do I really have to tell why ?
MineCraft: I have spent so much time with this "game" its ridiculous. And I still play it regularly.

Close contenders:
Skyrim: While it is a great game, it has many flaws that keep it from GOTY status
Deus Ex Human Revolution: Same as Skyrim.
Bastion: A fantastic little game, you have to experience it yourself.

Honorable mentions:
Orcs Must Die: Just a little fun game.
Bulletstorm: Mindless fun.

Disappointing:
Dragon Age 2: Was it really released this year ? It feels like ages since I have played it. I don't hate it, I had my fun but it could have been so much better.
Probably some more, but I don't remember anymore.

Please note that I have not played Arkham City, AC: Revelations, Portal 2 or Saints Row 3 yet. Or any of the FPS games. I have been playing a lot of older games. Also I'm a pure PC gamer.
