Your weirdest dreams

Inspired by the TW3 dream thread by @alyza - I thought it would be fun to make a thread about our weirdest dreams.

The best one wins the knowledge of the biggest secret of our moderator @sidspyker.
But please don't make them up, I'll check!
:mean:

I will post laster, to mix into the crowd.

For Blacha!

Had Fijian Flu a few years back, some fucking good dreams the week I spent in bed with that, wallpaper patterns taking on life and sentience as they expanded and spun, the lightbulbs spitting electricity and malice at me, my bed seeming to be hundreds of feet in the air and rocking like a cradle. Better than fucking mescaline or owt else i've snorted up me hooter, course I wasn't really in a position to appreciate it, in between hanging on to me sweat soaked covers for dear life or crawling to the kitchen to get yet more water.

I remember on the second day someone knocked at me door and I screamed like a fettered pig, fairly sure at the time it was the Grim Reaper come a calling.

Oh no, you got me started.

This one time I visited some kind of park, only to find the gates closed. I climbed the gates and realized I could fly, so I glided over the hills and temples of the old world. Landed on a platform to witness a fierce battle between two warriors, and flew away past a big temple with cuneiform writing I could not understand. Later I reached two large iron gates but they were closed, and a miniature arena next to me. I somehow shrunk and got inside the arena and was immediately engaged in battle against an unknown opponent who quickly kicked my ass. In rage, I got up and yelled "I am Ashurbanipal, king of Assyria!" and with newly found strength obliterated my rival. Then I was out of the arena and the gates unlocked, and I left that place and my dream.

Another time I was in a dull, dusty town like those of 1970s movies. Got in an old school VW van and drove to some big old mansion like that of the Addams Family. I went in and found lots of unusually visceral art like that associated with Nosferatu, brown with thorns and stuff. I saw an old lady sitting on a chair and then she casually started to burn, causing the walls to release blood (or red paint?). I wasn't exactly disturbed but nonetheless I left that place for good.

On a different occasion I was lost in the desert looking for shelter and stumbled upon a small village where I wasn't exactly welcome. Soon thereafter the darkness came and engulfed our world, causing pillars of ice to rise from the formerly hot sand. As I fled the darkness I reached some stairs and, not wanting to touch the sand, stood there watching. A lizard came to me and was split open by some unseen force, displaying its mess of blood and internal organs. Don't remember much else.

When I was 5 or 6 I dreamt I was being chased by some maniac and, after passing a street with very nice and green trees, I tried to hide in my school or kindergarden. But my efforts were fruitless, the maniac was faster and reached out to me stabbing my back with a single, sharp and long claw. I died and then woke up.

There are probably a few more. I'm an active dreamer.

Edit: another time I took a nap while listening to older Therion. In my dream I realized I could still hear the music and there was an holographic dragon dancing along to it in my front yard. That was kind of entertaining.

Another time I woke up (inside my dream) and found an empty town. I went out knocking on doors until I found this empty house with the door unlocked. Went in and found nobody, went upstairs and found a messy room. Inside found a bunch of old papers and a crystal clear long pill, like a transparent fish oil capsule. I looked out the window and witnessed a bright light and the end of the world, everything down the street consumed by light. Desperately I chugged the pill and everything went dark. Then I was an old man staring down a lively street, living in that one house with the unlocked door. In real life I made this into a short comic and tried making sense of it. My personal interpretation is the world was in a constant threat of alien invasion, and some unknown pact established there must be a guardian. The former guardian died of old age and when I stumbled upon and swallowed that pill I became the new one, stopping the imminent destruction while being trapped there until the end of my days. Can't deny this was likely inspired by stories such as "we can remember it for you wholesale".

*Ahem* This is a strange tale. I was under no influence of drugs, alcohol, nor sickness.

It was as if I was put under a spell, stuck between being asleep but not being able to fall and and being awake but not being able to wake. A sort of purgatory if you will. There was a sort of creature, one of a Chthonian nature. Comparable to Hermaes Mora of Elder Scrolls lore. The creature had no name but presented me simple problems to solve with the promise of sleep upon completion. They were never hard, sometimes as easy as, "what is eight plus seven"?.

The worst part is I knew the suspended conscious I was in. If I had to guess this went on for about three hours. And the scariest part is I very, very rarely remember my dreams.

That one does sound really weird - are you sure it was a dream?

I have half a dozen or so recurrent dreams that I've had for decades. They're all set in specific locations - houses that I've lived in, towns where I've lived or that I knew well. The dream versions of these places are wildly inaccurate, but consistent, and I usually recognise them in the dream and can go lucid. (I can't generally lucid dream, just with these.)

Well it had to be a dream. Even if it is that purgatory state if you will in between sleep/awake. I have too a recurring dream but only in a specific place. I often spend time at my friends place, a loft. He'll usually pass out on the couch if I or the lady and I are there., leaving us the bed.

I always dream that I'm falling from a very high height or being stuck in a hole. Fucking strange ass bed that guy has.

Edit: Sleeping stuff has always fascinated me, moreso sleep deprivation than dreams/nightmares. Mainly because they make no sense whatsoever. It's commonly theorised that you dream about the last thing you think about before sleep. I can recall a time or two that was true. But then again I only remember the strange ones.

I am not an expert on dreams by any means but I recall a discussion in a cognitive science class where somebody mentioned an accepted understanding of dream activity involved a recollection or compilation of multiple events that we experienced throughout the day, not just the last thing you think about. I think this is especially true for particularly exciting or traumatic days, or when we have a situation eating us from the inside.

In my case, I am sure most of those dreams had to do with something I read, such as when I got into babylonian/assyrian mythology.

Another thing that is better understood now is that brain activity is not lower during sleep states, maybe different. The brain doesn't stop working and in fact some regions may enter a different work mode. If i remember correctly, thalamic relay neurons in particular feature two firing modes, and the burst firing is associated with sleep. What it does or what it codes... I don't know. Not my area.

I believe sleep is also essential for long term memory consolidation, so I suppose it is likely that such a process may trigger certain events related to those memories.

Here's somebody else's awesome dream:

The Infinite Dream of Pao Yu

Pao Yu dreams that he is in an identical garden to the one in his own house. When he finds his maidservants in the garden, he approaches them. They seem to recognize him at first, but then they act confusedly and say "Oh I am sorry -- we mistook you for Pao Yu, our master, but you are not as handsome as he is." As the maidservants leave, Pao Yu is left dumbfounded and decides to follow them. He then arrives to a patio that seems very familiar. He goes up the stairs and enters his room, where a young man lies in bed talking to his maidservants. One of the maidservants asks the young man: "What are you dreaming Pao Yu? Is something troubling you?". "I had a strange dream. I dreamt that I was in a garden and that you didn't recognize me and left me alone. I followed you all the way to my house and found another Pao Yu sleeping in my bed". When Pao Yu hears this dialogue he comes into the chamber and exclaims, "I came in search of another Pao Yu, and it's you". As both men embrace, a distant voice calls Pao Yu from the garden. Both Pao Yus tremble. The dreamt one leaves. Pao Yu wakes up. His maid asks him, "What are you dreaming, Pao Yu? Is something troubling you?". "I had a strange dream. I dreamt that I was in a garden and that you didn't recognize me..."

Ok, this is weird... I had a dream where @dragonbird would edit my posts and put all my grammar mistakes in bold letters, like it was some sort of test.
What the hell does it mean?!
