Check out "Japanese Love Industry" short documentary. Interesting for many reasons. Population of Japan has started to drop because people don't want to get into relationships, commitment is a hassle. Employers wont hire you if you are in relationship since it might effect your performance. So what do you do..

Bloody Hell is that disturbing...but then again it's Japan.

First post and it's a racist comment.

Moderators, you are just gonna let this one slide huh. Okay. So if I made a racist comment about Poland, would you censor me or let that shit fly? Hell, I made a joke quite some time ago about Egypt and I was immediately put down.

But this disgusting racist fucking comment gets a free pass. Okay. A true bastion of morality, that you are mods. Keep on inspiring us all.

My mom studied Japanese at Lunds University and she still has connections with a lot of friends in Japan. They come and visit us here now and then and they're not any more lonely than any other people. They have friends, they have loved ones, just not in the way that corresponds with the "traditional" norm. There's a lot of reasons but I'm no expert so I'm not gonna write a thesis on it or anything. All I can do is relate from my experiences when hanging out with Japanese academics and even Buddhist monks that have visited us.

And from what I can tell, Japanese people aren't all that open when it comes to relationships. Ugh, that's not really what I mean but... Well it's like this. They're incredibly polite, well mannered, kind, well spoken, respectful, intelligent and honestly, loving. But they don't show it like say, a serb would (parents are from Serbia, though we all identify ourselves as humans). It's very interesting but Japanese people are a lot like Swedes (I live in Sweden). Swedes, like Japanese people, are modern, intelligent, polite, hard working and caring people. But one thing both lack, is passion. They don't show any emotions, that shit is just not acceptable in public. You have to be subdued. Calm. In Swedish there is a disgusting word that I hate and it's "lagom". I can't really translate it, it's really a word that's unique to Swedish alone but the best I can think off is "medium".

And I see that in Japanese people as well. You can't be too excited, but you can't show that you're nonchalant about something either. You can't be angry, but you can't be sad either. Everything has to be medium. Which is just so contrary to the way I live my life. I'm all about offensive jokes, being larger than life and being passionate about everything. That's the one thing I hate about Swedes and Japanese people alike, they lack any passion.

I believe that's essentially spilling into their relationships as well. But like I said, they're caring, nurturing and a truly loving people. But, like Swedes, they don't show it. Or rather, they have absolutely no clue how to convey it. I don't know. This is a really interesting topic. Something I have an interest in because, well, I come from quite an unusual place. I grew up mainly with people who weren't Swedes. Everything from Arabs, Kurds, Pollacks, Somalian, Egyptian, Turks, Yugoslavs, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, to Englishmen, Russians and even Mongolians. Yeah. Quite the mix huh :) We were all passionate. That's one of the best attributes we had in common. Later when I joined a primarily Swedish school, I was shocked at how mellow, depressed and lifeless the Swedes were. And I really was shocked. One of the greatest countries in the world, yet they seemed so sad. I just didn't get it. It's basically not in their culture to show excitement, or any emotions whatsoever. And that reminded me so much of my moms Japanese friends and guests.

This is just my instinct about a deeper reason to why Japanese people are so reluctant to get into relationships. But other issues, like women being too demanding, Japanese men being too shy, old traditions about how to engage with people versus the "playa/promiscuous" way, etc. But these are just things I've heard about, from friends who visit us to shit I've read. I have no idea what's really going on there, never been there myself. It's a fascinating topic, can go on for hours but I seem to have derailed the thread already. Shit, sorry about that! :p

OT: Anyway, here's my awesome video for the day!

Heh, yes! I'm not cat-crazy nor do I watch youtube that much, but Simon's Cat is a channel I've been following for years and it never fails to deliver. It's fun and creative and cute, I just love the way he animates cat mannerisms, it seems almost effortless. And the sounds!

It's beautiful and imaginative, really tough for me not to love ♥
