I just got past this part and I got some potions too. Swallow from the sewers Salandra area... in a chest I think, and something on one of the assassin's also.

Might want to try re-loading an earlier save before you took that quest. It isn't much to run around and get the lute before you talk to Triss or handout the sensor stones. I just completed this quest and he was there in the daytime for me, good luck though.

It's difficult but it *is* possible to pick up the signet ring from the Reverend... I didn't know the saved games folder was in "My Documents" and erased it, lol. So now I have to restart it.

Myself, I find it hilarious how you can walk into a tavern in a not so good area, and hear just about anything... Not everywhere do you hear about what your mom sucked.
