Should we continue V story and choose canon ending or begin new one?

Hi All!

I finished few days ago Cyberpunk and I'm wondering if Orion will be a continuation or brand new story. In my personal opinion I really would like to continue V story and meet friends and renew/continue our relations. I'm curious about your opinions and thoughts about this topic. In poll I allowed two selectable responses, because I personally vote for The Sun or The Star and can't decide which one would be better in general.

I don't mind keep playing as V or start with a new character.

The only thing it's I'm totally against picking a canon ending, even if the "canon ending" is the one I always choose. It would be the worst... because it mean that CDPR would ignore one of the most important choice in CP77 (choices which are already rather limited). If they decide to continue V journey in Orion, I hope they will find a way or a trick to integrate all endings in Orion.

I want to play as V again, but they don't have to pick a canon ending. All ending can be connected by one corp...or one certain blue-eyed man....or a one certain president...the prologue can have V pick up where endings left off. Perhaps all endings lead to the same conclusion, that Arasaka is finished...or at least crippled like in most of the endings....perhaps all endings lead to V being 'neutered' like in The Tower...time skips a bit and V gets a text from some unknown number claiming to have a way to 'reverse what was done' to them...but they have to meet up somewhere...thus the story begins...I guess we shall see.

I realize wanting V against as a protag is not a popular view, but IDGAF. The story feels incomplete to me and my Vs all mean something to me. Like with Commander Shepard, I wanna see their story continue.

I dont think CDPR is going to choose a canon ending... they most prob are going with a new character... i can imagine that V will mentioned in one way or another like other lore characters or even as a drink on the After Life menu.

What i cant imagine is to set V as an ongoing char... it always felt weird to me in sequels or triologys that the character loses all its progression just to not beeing overpowered at the sequels start.... f.e. Aloy in Horizon got this awesome godlike armor in endgame... in Forbidden West its the starting armor without feature anymore (explained with "the engery cells went empty"...) or Lara in the TR surviver triology... loosing all weapon and equippent and even need to "relearn" skills and perks like she just felt for amnesia.... its always hard to continue on a character which is kinda op in the end of a game and explain it in a logical way.... how should it look like on V? how should V become a rookie again just to raise up once more?...

on the other hand i also feel that Vs story isnt over yet.... i'd love to play (or at least see) the casino heist f.e. or figure out where all the Mr. Blue Eyes / Rouge Ai / AlphaCentauri / Mysterious Ring-Corporation stuff end up etc. - but im afraid we wont get the answers in Orion tbh...

Hey,
I voted for a new main character because V's story is done.
Also, Cyberpunk holds many people and stories, as CDPR showed with Edgerunners.
It would be a shame not to grab a chance to tell some different and amazing story.

After your comments I added additional option, Continue V story without canon ending. You can revote :)

A continuation of V's story without a canon ending.

Because the epilogues are each a unique representation of the three lifepaths which V ultimately gets to choose atop of Misty's rooftop (just like Jackie chose his), therefore the sequel can easily start as a direct continuation of each lifepath with all of them converging to the exact same location, just like it did with CP2077 at the beginning.

A visual example of how a sequel would address this;

Start a new character.

To me, it's clear CDPR intended for V's story to end there and they're ready to move on.

Yep, it would be my only regret if CDPR decide to not continue V's story in Orion :giggle:

Even if V is out, Cherami could still be in! Her normal, everyday, voice is nothing like V's and if you look at all of her work, she's got A LOT of range. I definitely hope they bring her back. She did an awesome job.

Yes, sure she can. Like I said a while ago, I don't even recognize her in P5R :giggle:

My preference would be for Orion to feature a new protagonist, while V gets referenced depending on the player's choice (whether it's an imported decision, a "world state" selected at the beginning of the game, etc.).

I've made my peace with all of the V outcomes in 2077 and am ready to move on. Of course, I'll still appreciate seeing some of the previous characters return, but I want to see tons of new characters (including romances), stories, themes, and so on.

I'd definitely prefer a new character.

As much as I like V and would like to continue their story... There's the catch of how the CP2077's overall design was one of choices. The different endings, the LI's, the choices made during missions etc.

All those things make it harder to create a sequel without picking some canon choices, which devalues the entire purpose of them in the first place.

Like, unless V takes another bullet to the head and wakes up in a new city with no memories... At which point you may as well just use a new character.

Even better is if the new character takes a different role in whatever city Orion takes place it (Be it NC or otherwise) - Allowing us to explore a different lifepath as opposed to how V is a merc (And basically follows a "Streetkid" lifestyle after Jackie)

Yeah, I heard Phillip Weber talking about how the team will focus on more complex lifepaths.
How about dropping them completely?

What if the main character was a poet/rocker boy/girl with a family, and while his/her kids would be mercs or something (or would have lifepaths), he/she would guide them and make decisions,...? Similar to e.g. Geralt and Ciri.

It could be mixed with some sarcastic humour and dad jokes (TLOU and Witcher come to my mind)...and also stuff like happily meeting everyone after a gig.
The themes of the story could include relations with family while living in the cyberpunk world, personal goals, family goals, big decisions influencing the whole family...while wanting to achieve something personal like getting revenge, etc...

The main character could be a former corpo rat who wanted to live a prosperous and secure life (that's why he/she chose to work in an office), got his/her legs blasted off in some accident or e.g. other corporate attack, then he/she partially gave up on life, felt into depressions, started drinking and became a sarcastic rocker boy/girl like Johnny Silverhand, and the story would start with an option to get leg implants and be there for the family...

What about a temperance option? Continue Johnnys journey in a new city. Could be interesting, and Cherami Leigh for Fem V/Johnny or Gavin Drea for Mal V/Johnny wouldn't be a problem anymore.
