CHECK OUT Massive Chalice art design

If any of you reading this just dont happen to know, Massive Chalice is the 2nd Kickstarter game being developed by Double Fine (Tim Schaffer's crew). It will be a turn-based tactical and strategic game set in a fantasy setting (kinda like X-com meets Game of Thrones />/>).

The devs are great, and they've been almost constantly streaming news and stuff. Definetely Double Fine is working their Kickstarters on an "open" development process. Im a backer of both Double Fine Kickstarter projects (the other is a "classic" adventure game called "Broken Age") and Im stocked... />/>/>

Here is some fresh new stuff about their early art direction and design. It's pretty long (more than an hour) but totally worth checking, even if you're not interested in the game, or are not specially inclined towards the fine arts. />/>/>

I am sorry, but I don't see what's special about this art style- it's very similar to the kind we saw/see in The Walking Dead. I don't see what makes this example special, the fantasy setting? Come to think of it, Poker Night at the Inventory had similar stylings.

I can understand maintaining style consistency between games of a series, but when they show the same art style in unrelated games, it makes me think the developers are uninspired, one-trick ponies. Seriously lame.

Yeah, I'm aware the art design is not "top-of-the-line"... after all, this is a small budget game...

Maybe I should ve been clearer in my first post, but what I personally find unique about this is seeing first hand the (internal) developing process of the art design. The ideas, iliterations, etc. Stuff you dont normally see or find out about ANY game.

That is what I find most interesting about this.


And you can picture it or spin it as you like, but they are definetely talented people. Anything but "lame".
