Help with modding

+
Hi everyone, I've been trying to install mods for the past few days through Vortex and it's been good. But I've been stumbling to a lot of mods that require me to do it manually, specifically archive mods like LOD mods.

I've been downloading them and extracting them to my archive folder (D:\steam games\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077\archive\pc\mod) and it doesn't seem to be deploying in my game. I think I have the right folder and I've also downloaded/enabled Redmod through Steam so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Make sure that all required mods are installed, also check file paths, some mods contain flies that need to go into multiple folders, usually extracting them into the main game folder will make sure everything drops into the right place, it depends on if the mod author set everything to the correct path or if it's all loose files.

Personally, I like vortex I use it for BG3, FO4, Starfield (not that I play that very much). But for CP2077, I find it easier to manually drop the files where they need to go. My method is extract everything in downloads, make sure all the folders are correctly labeled (ex: Archive, Bin, r6, red4ext) and if that all looks right then I cut and paste into the main game folder, and everything should go where it's needed (unless the mod author mistakenly set the wrong path)

If it's only an archive file, check the load order, sometimes if the load order is wrong you can end up with something not loading correctly or a conflict between mods. adding something like 00_ to the front of the archive files name will move it higher on the load order. it might be worth it to check the posts on the mod page itself sometimes there is a simple fix posted in the comments, on a few occasions I needed to check the comments to fix a mod and sometimes it really is as easy as renaming the file.

there should be two folders, one is Mods and the other is Mod, best way is to check every mods where it suppose to be and but them there manually. Alot of Mods do need "basic" mods to work and its very easy to use a older version or forget one. As DJSpyder said is the best way to go about it, some are really good at making mods that you just need to drop into the Cyberpunk folder, others are not so clear cut, so always double check that there are were they are suppose to be. Download a few, log into the game and check out how they work before downloadning more, unless you already downloaded them before; Installing 100+ mods then realizing the games constant crashes due to a issue is not fun when you are going to find the problem....

Most of what I’m trying to download are like improved environmental LOD and improved crowd density so it’s hard to tell if it’s actually taking affect.

The mods I put into the archive folders are not crashing my game either and it just feels like it’s not loading in the game at all. Which is weird cause all of the Vortex mods I downloaded are in the archive folder and it works perfectly fine.

what one are trying to use? some are really tricky and as you said, hard to spot straight away, if the other mods works fine its probably not your instaling them wrongly,

These are the ones I manually downloaded and this is how it looks in my archives

It's hard to spot but there are a few where there are supposed to be new settings in the menu like the "NextGenCrowd" mod but it doesn't appear. Most that are supposed to increase the LOD draw distance also don't seem to take effect such as street lights or NPC. I tested it out in a crowded area and at night but it remained the same as before I installed the mods.

Many mods don't work unless absolutely everything is on the C: drive. I'm surprised they don't make this more clear.

Yes it’s only archive files and about the load order, will doing that to all my mods mess up the files?

Renaming a file or changing load order (which can also be done in vortex) should not mess up the mod itself as long as you're not changing anything in the actual file just the name or order. You can also drag and drop .zip archives into vortex and see if letting vortex manage it for you helps sometimes vortex can manage those just fine, or downloads from an external site, other times it struggles so 50/50 shot that fixes the issue.

I strongly suggest checking the posts/comments on Nexus, I've run into some strange stuff where I just could not figure out the issue and then found the answer was already posted there. Based on your list I don't see any known conflicts off the top of my head, but that doesn't mean there isn't a conflicting mod either,

The Lod mods can be tricky, I've had some issues with pop-in using them in the past, they sometimes need a little adjusting in your settings to actually give the desired effects, so it's possible they're technically "loading into the game" you're just not seeing the difference. Which again the actual mod page might have some suggestions to work around. Also, if you're using re-shade there could be some overprocessing between all the mods where it kind of looks worse until you find the right balance,

Okay thanks, I'll try to drop it into Vortex and see what happens, and also check each of the mods pages to see if I can get an answer.

I'm not sure if it helps but I keep getting this screen when I download the mods through Vortex specifically this line stands out to me

I've tried moving it but it didn't fix all of them.
Just remember it for next time you play the game. For ideal results have the game and Vortex on C: . That includes default Vortex settings such as download and staging folders on C:
That goes for any game you mod with Vortex of course.
