[Newbie] Monster Weather deck?

Greetings,

I recently started playing Gwent and therefore don't have much cards and experience in deck building. Currently I'm sitting on 400 scraps for 2 epics to improve my deck which is a frost/fog deck - easy to play and counters most buffing effects. Here it is:

Obviously, some of these cards don't have enough synergy like the Ghoul, Manticore, the 3 Arachas and Adrenaline Rush.

Most player here recommand to craft Ciri, but this doesn't seem to be that useful in a monster deck. Instead, I thought about using Caranthir, unfortunately he's Monster only and can't be used in any other fraction =/ Any recommendations?

You get Ciri at level 18, so depends on how often you play, you get her quite easily for free. I'd remove Ghoul as you will use Frost on it often, completely negating his STR. Caranthir and Woodland Spirit are good, cheap cards for Monsters, a lot of weather decks use them, so they're good options. Also just saying - Ciri is good in any deck, if you win round 1, you can use her in round 2, which you intend to lose, so then she comes back to your hand in round 3 and gives you card advantage.

Here you have (unfinished yet, but it's being updated with players' progression notes) Level Reward Spreadsheet : https://www.reddit.com/r/gwent/comments/5jexv4/level_up_rewards_table/

Thanks for your respond and the link. Glad to get her for free, also about the Decoy I'd crafted at some point for sure otherwise (being able to generate a card and play something twice sounds kinda overpowered, doesn't it?).

I replaced one frost spell with Caranthir now, what else do you suggest? Especially the Arachas are bad with the hero's passive.

^ This, basically. Those cards have the biggest impact on a Monster Weather deck and are cheap to get.

Yeah I'd definitely remove Arachas.

Some cheap cards for weather monsters: Water Hag - 80 scraps, Geralt: Aard: 200 scraps, Sarah - 200 scraps, Ice Giant - 200 scraps. I wouldn't buy Sarah as one of the first cards though, as she's easy as hell to remove and yes, she will always be destroyed - even if she manages to grow, people will burn her later anyway.

You could also remove Manticore and add Drowners + Rain.
Buy Dagon instead of Eredin.
Get some silver weather cards (http://www.gwentdb.com/cards/50031-merigolds-hailstorm http://www.gwentdb.com/cards/8-skellige-storm http://www.gwentdb.com/cards/9-white-frost), but not all of them. It's just that they're better than bronze weather cards.

My own weather deck looks like this:

Leader: Dagon
3x Wild Hunt Rider
3x Wild Hunt Warrior
1x Ice Giant
1x Geralt: Aard
1x Caranthir

3x Drowner
1x Water Hag
1x Caretaker (*)

1x Decoy (*)
1x Merigold's Hailstorm
1x Aeromancy (*)
1x Biting Frost
1x First Light
1x Manticore Venom
1x Scorch
1x Torrential Rain
1x Dimeritium Shackles
1x Lacerate
1x Avallac'h (*)

The cards marked with a (*) are legendaries that are probably a bit too expensive for your budget but this should give you an idea of what to look for.
I'm avoiding Fog because I find Foglets too weak and I don't think it's worth it for just the Ancient Foglets. I have Drowners and Geralt:aard to push/pull enemy troops from the ranged row into the siege row.
The biggest bane for this deck is First Light which is too powerful to the point where too many people play with 2-3 in every deck.

If you are running a weather deck I would definitely recommed Geralt: Aard which can wipe out entire rows when used properly. Also Drowners + Water Hag (or something else which can spawn rain) will provide you additional options to deal with problematic cards. There is a very high tactical value about being able to move cards across rows. I also added Geralt: Igni to my deck along Caranthir(For Frost) and Woodland Spirit(For Fog) as an additional failsafe to destroy enemy units.

Dagon while it might seem like a natural choice for a Weather deck, it really boils down to your play-style. I generally leave weather-spawning to the cards in the deck and have Eredin as an additional reliable punch which might come in handy later on. Dagon also can spawn a random-bronze unit (via First Light) but...well that is random till you thin your deck further.

Now looking at your deck, I would also recommend removing Epidemic, because if you are running Foglets...there is a very good chance you shall have the least strong units on the table. Also I do agree with removal of ghoul considering there is a good chance it will eat a small snack instead a large one as well as your own frost will interfere badly.

Thanks for all answers so far, it really helped me in my first weeks with Gwent. I'll stick with Eredin as I think it's more useful to have 10 extra strength and use the cards to activate weather effects instead of a useless ability against any decks using multiple versions of 'First Light'. Even the random summoned minion won't be equal to Eredin itself.

Here's my current deck list: http://www.gwentdb.com/decks/10755

Not sure whether there are any possibilities to improve this deck list, what do you think?

When you reach the point when you have a few more scraps to spare, the double weather cards are great, Merigold's Hailstorm, Skellige's Storm & White Frost, each at 200 scraps

There is also Aeromancy which is 800 Scrap and can be any of the weather cards.

Ragnaroog isn't worth it as it takes up a valuable golden spot
