I wonder how much getting CP to run suitably on last gen hardware is not only a futile effort, but doubly causing real harm to the potential of CP truly becoming that masterpiece we all hope it will be. This patch will be telling.
i heard rumors down the grapevine that the so called console gameplay trailer of the XB1 and PS4 shown way back then was "fake". turns out from what i pieced together cdpr used footage from a high end PC and simply "slapped" the words PS4 and XB1 footage on it. very clever might i add you got to give them credit for scamming us that good. almost as good as ACM.
well it is still pretty "clever" in my book you gotta admire how great of a "con artist act" cdpr's marketing department did. would make gearbox and randy blush. The gameplay was not for the base PS4 and Xbox One, it was for the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, there was nothing fake about it, it runs as it's shown there with the framerate drops present included.

The game entered pre-production somewhere in mid-2016 after The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine was finished. So no, it did not enter development prior to old-gen consoles. The game entered development prior to next-gen consoles, correct? So it stands to reason that it should be released on, and run at least as well as its other titles on those systems.

Oh, yikes, I read that wrong. Sorry.I wrote next-gen, i.e. PS5, Series X/S.
Good gawd yes. This should never have been sold on last gen. Only ridiculous greed could have inspired the move.
There is no win here
Or, and here's a thought, that they wanted to give the many, many, many people with last gen machines, still half their audience, a chance to try the game. Note - glitchy though it may be, there are many reports of playable experiences on last gen.
Had they not offered it, 2 things would have happened: 1. "CDPR is breaking promises! Liars!" 2. "Just let us decide for ourselves! I can't afford/find a PS5 anyway!"
There is no win here, other than a delay for everyone, which would have -also- led to the above two accusations/demands.
And that ladies and gentlemen is the answer to this entire thread.
Not launching on old gen wasn't an option.

I think the question us whether they should have ever set ps4/xbone as an initial release date. Hindsight is 20/20 however ps4 players seem to say the level of bugginess was not acceptable.
