Frame drop since 1.6

+
I also have that problem. Usually the fps is 50, but sometimes it goes to 20-25 and stays there, even if I drive outside the city. Somehow, after few alt-tabs it sometimes returns back to normal.

How many of you are on Windows 11 as opposed to Windows 10?

I still use Windows 10 and have no plans to downgrade. Maybe make a poll so see if there's an outside-game reason for the FPS drops. My current play-through isn't dramatically different from version 1.5.

Yikes, I was just about to load the new version...

Thanks for posting this, I will put off the "upgrade" for a while. I am too tired theses days to crawl through new version glitched purgatory. I am confident CDPR will fix this as they are now aware of it. So I will wait.

Have the same issue, for me, there is a slow down after I leave a menu but it will recover.

Other times it will last until I change some graphic settings back and forth, don't have to restart the game to fix it though.

This almost sounds as if the game is loading shaders on the fly...but I don't see why it would need to do that for ray tracing.

If you encounter a "slowdown moment", what happens if you reload the game and go back to that same spot again?

What do you guys think about hardware accelerated gpu scheduling, can it be the cause of some fps drops? Im using Win 11 and it is enabled by default, it should help with fps stability depends on the game, especially in CPU bound scenarios

Personally, I think it's one of those millions of settings that get mentioned in google-searches that *may* make a difference but probably shouldn't :)

I've had a weird experience with this patch. Dove into the game and had quite horrible performance. Went online, looked around. Saw the "reset to default settings and then reset graphics options manually" tip. Was skeptical since these types of solutions never work for me in games, however, it actually really did work for this patch for some reason.
For me, I feel like I've actually been able to push some graphics options up and get a way more acceptable "steady" FPS than I've gotten on the previous patch. It's been noticeable for me.

Two problems for me though:

I do get the seemingly random longer term FPS drops that some people report though. I can't really figure out what this is tied to. It really feels random.

And the worst thing for me, with 1.6 I keep getting sudden hitches or stutters where the frame will freeze for a second and then go on. The overall FPS is completely fine, just getting the stutters periodically.

Welp...for the number of times it has come up, I think we may actually have something along the lines of a memory leak here. Definitely can't be sure, but enough people are reporting exactly that effect, and it seems consistent enough.

Can anyone experienceing this please report it to CDPR Support as a standalone ticket. Best description to include is:

Performance degradation over time.

...followed by a description of what happens and when. (About how long does it take to become noticeable?) Additionally, if you are to reload a saved game, does performance increase again? Try also quitting to the main menu and reloading that way. If you reload from within the game, it won't clear as much of the resident stuff out of RAM.

Patch 1.6 made my game literally unplayable. 3800x, 2070s, 32gb, evo970plus. I had ~66fps in 1.52 (1080p, DF optimized settings + Ultra RT without sun shadows, DLSS Balanced) and now my framerate with exact same settings dropped to ~42!!! average fps. Thought that may be on my side, but i already reinstalled Windows, tried 3 different driver versions, nothing helped. Last thing that i made is compared this two versions, 1.52 and 1.6, so all I can do is just wait for hotfix, bc i know, that my rig could handle Cyberpunk 2077 with good settings at 60+ fps.

Maybe you already tried and/or maybe it won't change anything, but worth to try :
What seems to have fixed was, after reading some other comments on this, resetting the settings in Graphics and Video settings menu to default, then quitting and restarting (not sure if that was necessary but hey), then re-adjusting the graphics settings from scratch (for me that was basically putting vsync back on and choosing Ray-Tracing Medium preset).

LeKill3rFou, thanks, but yes, saw this tip on reddit, have tried it one of the first since noticed fps drop after patch and it didn't helped me at all :(

Ok :(
If it's not already done, the best would be to send a report to the support with a benchmark (better than "waiting" a fix, at least it could help CDPR to figure out why and above all, why it doesn't affect everyone).

LeKill3rFou, I already did it too, thanks) I decided to share here if someone with a similar config faced a drop in FPS after the patch and thought that the problems might be on their side.

Has anyone of you tried to
  1. Delete C/users/<username>/AppData/local/Cd project red/cyberpunk 2077/UserSettings.json
  2. Verify / validate game files via Steam or GOG
?

IIRC, this helped a lot of players who had performance issues after patch 1.5.

DC9V, yep, nothing changed. I even installed fully fresh 1.6 game on clean Windows (with all necessary libraries and drivers ofc).

Greetings,

Just wanted to chip in here, for those who are using specifically G Sync monitors. Try to disable vsync and also disable the maximum frame rates in game and GPU Control panel as well. You can either try either one as well but I decided to disable both. ( Including low latency too. )

Frankly since this game is so taxing unless u have a next gen GPU to play at maxed settings with 100+ fps on average... that wont be the case. o_O
No screen tearing etc since its still below your refresh rate so worth give it a try.
Game seemed totally smooth for 3 hours overall for me. Will try give it more time to keep on testing it if I have the time.
I really hope thats the case so we can address this issue later on. Fingers crossed though.

Played on maximum settings (Both Psycho including Ray Tracing and Screen Space Reflections) on 1440p.
HDD mode off & Crowd Density High.
Balanced and Performance DLSS used respectively. ( 50+ fps & 60+ fps average ).
Current Nvidia Driver used : 516.59

My specs :
Windows 11 Pro
i5 12600k (5.2 Ghz overclocked)
Nvidia 3070
DDR4 SDRAM 32gb Corsair Vengeance Lpx (XMP Enabled)
Samsung 970 PRO M.2 NVME SSD (Installed game)
Corsair RM850 PSU

Seeing very similar thing happening for me as one or two others describe, and it's markedly different to 1.5, with the lows being very noticeable. Like the OP, I'm using a 5600x (boosts comfortably to ~4.7ghz), with a 3080ti and 980 Nvme @1440p on Win11. For me, after a couple of days of testing, it's almost as if there's a CPU bottleneck, especially noticeable with DLSS turned on. Have done the obvious tests/re-installs for problems with hardware, installation, drivers, and shaders to no change. Only thing left for me to try is a full Win 11 reinstall which I'm rather loathe to do just quite now.

Whatever the underlying issue is, as it's still not as it was for me with 1.5, can say that turning off Resizable Bar has had a huge impact on me noticing it in general gameplay. Also seems to have doubled the minimum fps recorded by the benchmark.

First question, and it's always the big one:
Are you using any mods, or have you every used any in the past?

In either case, if the "return settings to default and restart" thing does not clear up the issue, then it's possible that there is simply an issue resident in the save file or installation that cannot be retroactively corrected. This is not uncommon with games that have been through multiple updates over time. Do the performance issues manifest if you begin a brand new game?

If nothing else works, then the last thing I would try is a complete deletion of the game content (manually cleaning things like the AppData folder of all CP2077 files). Be sure to back up your saved games first! Reinstall the game to a brand new directory, ensuring that it is not located anywhere under Program Files or Program Files(x86) -- install instead to the root of your drive or a directory of your own creation.

Ensure no mods whatsoever are installed.

Begin a brand new game -- do not try to load your existing save files. See if that clears the issue up. If so, you can be assured that the issue lies somewhere in the resident data of your existing files. If not, then it's definitely a problem between the game files and your system config, somewhere. At that point, I'd send in your complete specs and a vanilla save file to CDPR Support.
