Is it an intentional choice to not let us save the game during the final quest of Phantom Liberty? [Spoilers]

I am in the last quest of Phantom Liberty and I have reached the part where you need to run from the robot, but I got lost and it caught up to me, and threw me all the way back to my last save before starting this quest. This is one hell of a setback for every death, especially considering that if the robot sees you, you are done.

The game makes a lot of autosaves during this quest, and you can also quicksave sometimes (when things quiet up).
I didn't like this quest much, but both hiding crouched around corners or behind stuff and running away head over heels work quite well.
