Those are the guns they are equipped with by default during the story when they are your companions, don't think there's a way to change them at the moment. Also, your friendly AI does not do much damage anyway even with shotguns and sniper rifles, but do a good job at drawing enemy fire.

This is awesome!
Although, they're all so useless in the combat.. only there for a moral support probly
