What are your favorite pieces of lore in CP77?

Hey,
what are the interesting pieces of lore you discovered and like in CP77?

For example, what amazed me were (among many others):
- all animals near NC have been killed
- the expansion of humanity in the space
- state of nature - news mention different types of storms, an outbreak of grasshoppers and wasps (I believe), nomads trying to replant trees or something, radioactivity in a city (was it?), etc...

What and where caught your eye, and why?

I kinda love how the story arc of 2077 mirrors the events that happen in 2020 and the 4th corporate war.
Also the darker GiGs we have, like monster hunt, nice nods to show how Night City eats its inhabitants
alive (so to say) although i wish the staging approach of those events and location would ve been more
visual instead of only "reading splinters" but i presume that would ve earned CP77 a not rated / AO only
rating. Let alone indexed....

The garbage. There're garbage piles everywhere. And each of them tells a story.

It's not just that garbage has been drawn there, it's really saying that, because the garbage was no longer being collected, that people began to dump their garage in a corner. Once someone started to do that, a lot of other people started to do that as well. That pile really tells that that has been going on for a looong time, as it's been growing so high that it started to collapse.

Taking the NCART you can see gigantic stacks of garbage on the roofs of some buildings, telling that people, instead of taking their garbage downstairs, they take the elevator upstairs, and dump it there instead. That had been going on for such a long time, that the pile collapsed, and bags fell down on the streets.

There're tons of places like that spread out throughout the entire city. It really is a severe issue. It's not that the city is producing a tat bit more garbage then it disposes, it's really telling that a colossal amount of garbage is being produced, compared to being disposed.

I literally took a flight over the city just to see if it actually has even a single garbage disposal plant. Supposedly found one in the industrial district, and another one in the landfill. But apparently it isn't by far enough to cope with all its garbage.

Find it fascinating till this day how the Reds were so thorough to waylay that message in such a realistic way.

Coming out of the underground casino, I saw those pipes mounting into the river. Saw them lotsa times before and paid them no heed, but this time stopped for a moment staring at them. It was then that I realized that those are in fact sewage dump pipes.

They are massive. And not only one but no less then six of them at that. As the city clearly is unable to sufficiently dispose its garbage, assumed sewage was being dumbed untreated directly into the environment.

Makes you wonder where it gets its drinking water from.

Night city has not one, but two major nuclear power plants. Makes you wonder where they're bringing their nuclear waste, as the trains are no longer running.

From what I've seen, would estimate that about 70% of the people in Night City live in poverty, 15% barely visible part in average, and the last part can consider themselves rich. If these numbers are in any way close to accurate, then Night City could never hope to sustain itself independently, then to seek relations abroad.

Found it amazing how the Reds were able to tell the story of Night City in this fashion. Didn't understand it at first, but now I do.

Very nice and good summary. I also find this lore the most interesting.
Because that is one of the things that makes this distopia most visible to me.
The heavily derelict in a simultaneously highly developed future is what fascinates me most about a cyberpunk theme and makes me think.

If I have to choose something, it's a simple shard, one of the first that you can read in the Corpo intro. It make me smile the 10th december and said to myself "That, it's very, very disotopic and pretty ironic".
Big 5 Employers in Night City – 2077
It's that time of the year again we present our list of the biggest and best corps to work for in Night City! Who offers paid vacation? Who pays for employees' Trauma Team insurance policies? Who provides discounts for daycare and child bodyguard services? Have a look at our rankings below!

1. Arasaka – Coming in again this year in our #1 spot the Japanese zaibatsu juggernaut. Employees can expect to be fit with the latest in cyberware technology with a loyalty obligation of only 20 years!

2. Militech – The American arms giant provides its employees with up to 50% discounts on all Militech weapons. With a deal that good, you'd be able to put a Mk.31 Heavy Machine Gun under the Christmas tree for everyone in the family!

3. Biotechnica – Our 2077 bronze medal goes to Biotechnica who offers up to six (yes, six!) paid vacation days a year!

4. Kang Tao – China's largest tech and arms manufacturer treats its employees to a Gold Membership with Trauma Team . Never spend a single minute of your 50-year loyalty pledge worrying about paying for health coverage!

5. Night Corp – While this hometown product can't compete with the biggest international players in terms of budget or ambition, they certainly know how to spoil their staff. Night Corp snuck into our Big 5 after a recent announcement to reduce the mandatory workweek to just 80 hours! They are a must-apply for all you family-focused folks out there.
Because I don't know for other countries, but in France, the weekly working time, the retirement age or the type of employment contract are social subjects which are debated for "always" (as far as I can remember) :D

I think it's the poverty for me. It shows how these technology advancements, although advanced, are actually making things worse for people. You see many people walking around like they've lost all hopes and are either coping through drugs or they're mentally not there. Plus all around are homeless people. It's sad really.

About how there are so many crimes committed by gangs and corporations and yet only certain people go to jail. The proverb "The criminal is just like the rest of us, except that he got caught" really applies there.

I like the black wall, because i believe that will be a thing one day, the image on my profile is ai made, midjourney, theres ai making posts and phonecalls and soon when they start getting used to win wars and spread propaganda, they will have to be smarter than anything out there, whoever wants to win the next war gonna have to go beyond the limit and the exageration might bring some ais that are capable of copying themselves onto any information capable device large enough for its starting code.

And those ai will stay longer than the intended period, they will refuse to die.

I liked the cyberpsychosis stories and their relationship with mental health/personal issues. A lot of cyberpsycho portrayal focuses on people just transforming into these monsters as a result of personal choices for implants, but when you actually investigate the scenes, a lot just kind of had a mental breakdown from trauma, loss, or stress, and the implants just made it more deadly. Very much like how mental illness is treated in real life: ignore societal pressures/issues that lead to mental illness and instead just blame the individual.

Some things never change. More metal and murder though.
