Cyberpunk 2077 Crash on "Jack-in" section of Knockin' on Heavens Door

+
Hello, I'm a relatively new player to Cyberpunk 2077 and I would like to say that the game is awesome now compared to launch. I've played the game just fine without any issues or crashes up until now. The issue I'm running into is the game constantly keeps crashing at the ending section where Johnny has to jack-in to save V from dying. The sequence plays fine right up until the moment Johnny jumps into the water and the screen starts to glitch until it it fades to black. Afterwards, all audio cuts off and the game crashes to desktop.

The game has consistently crashed at this same spot every time i boot it up again. I attempted lowering graphics, and turning off any mods I had installed (most of the mods i have installed are purely for character customization cosmetics, so no gameplay mods). Lastly i tried a new install of the game which took quite some time and it still had no effect.

I assumed that maybe my save file could be corrupted since originally i had the Third Person Mod installed and then removed it because it was causing weird camera jerks when the game would switch to Johnny gameplay. Aside from that, I have no idea what's causing the game to crash at that exact point. It's frustrating because I'm unable to see the ending I worked to get after countless hours of gameplay already.

If anyone has any idea what exactly is causing the issue or if this is an issue entirely with the game that needs to be patched. Either way, it would greatly appreciated!

I'll also leave my PC specs:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060
Driver version: 556.12
AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6-core Processor 3.80 GHz
16 GB Ram (15.15 useable)

If I have to guess, I would say it's likely because of a mod. Assuming you talk about when you (as Johnny in V's body) jack-in in Mikoshi during the ending and knowing that in the following game sequence you're an engram, I would also bet it's likely due to the third person mod or in this case, maybe its absence.

I think the easiest would be to reinstall this mod (and maybe all mods you ever used) and see if the game keep crashing at this moment.
Or you can also perform a clean-install of the game and cross your fingers it will work (which is not guaranteed knowing that mod data can remain into save files, and so the issues too).

Installing the third person mod is a pretty bad idea at this point. It was already janky when it was being updated but now.... it hasn't been updated since September 2023. That's a few updates behind and installing any mod that wasn't updated for the current version is a terrible idea if the author is not confirming no update is necessary. The TP mod has a long list of issues at this point in time and not only did you install it, you uninstalled it. Which, as @LeKill3rFou said, can be an issue in and of itself.

You can try to re-install it and see what happens but there is no telling if it will actually fix your issue.

Most mods will leave a trace behind if you uninstall them. Some games deal with that better than others but CP2077 isn't one of those. I'm saying this because, assuming the mods you still have are not the issue because they're not "gameplay" mods is wrong. They could very well be the cause. Note that I am not saying they are the cause. Only that assuming mods that affect X cannot possibly affect Z is a mistake. Sometimes they do.

Hopefully re-installing the third person, and any other mod you may have uninstalled at this point, fixes your issue but prepare yourself for the possibility that your save is conked and nothing but a clean install + starting over will allow you to get that ending.

To anyone in the future coming across this post, this worked for me. I eventually tried another clean reinstall following the process in the link posted above. I slowly added all the mods I was currently using and managed to get past the point that was crashing my game. If I had to guess what was causing the issue I'd have to say it was the Third Person Mod that had some left over data still after i removed it towards the start of my playthrough. Aside from that, thank you for the help!
