I am not sure if it helps, but I found that if you have another item, which can be opened by Shupe, if you open the present boxes you do not get kicked out of it.
I was not able to open any without that and just lost them, however ever since I kept an unopened keg each time I was not kicked out.
I think there is an issue if those presents are the last thing that Shupe can open and since the are not kegs, once one opens them there is an error with one being moved out of the "Open" section of the shop, so just keep something else you can open, another present box would propably also work and with the daily rewards etc you should (very easily) be able to get a spare keg you just open after your gift boxes.
