How to fix traps

+
I just had an idea about how to fix traps. There are two fundamental changes being suggested.

1. Only the player deploying traps may spring them. The traps should no longer be triggered by opponents.

2. The targeting of the traps needs to change. For incinerating trap, can target any unit that was deployed since the trap was played. This gives the trap user the chance to spring it for max value (maybe in connection with muzzle or some other special card.) Crushing trap does 3 damage (needs to be higher than lacerate, to a row when the player springs it. Pitfall trap functions the same way but when triggered does damage based on the last card played.

Because these traps are all buffed, the provision cost can be increased to compensate, that said, these traps won’t brick, and give unique advantages to ST. Traps should not be a higher risk lower reward version of special cards. They should be a unique archetype with specific utility.

P.S. The trap that springs up, poisons and transforms into a unit should just be counted as a unit and given the ambush tag. Should not count against artifact total nor should he be omitted from the call of harmony unique tags count.

I think Traps are mostly fine the way they are. They need to be better balanced (like everything in this game), but redesigning the mechanic isn't necessary. The biggest problem I have with them at the moment is that cards like Bomb Heaver can destroy face-down Trap cards despite the fact that face-down cards should not have any identifying properties, such as being Artifact cards.

A trap is an artifact and only artifacts are face-down, bomb heaver can deactivate the trap. That makes more sense than deactivating full scenarios btw

Currently, the only cards that can be face-down are Artifacts, but this could easily be changed with a new expansion. At the very least, it seems quite likely that they will make Units with the Ambush keyword at some point in the near future. Regardless, this isn't about what makes sense. It's about the rules that dictate what is and is not allowed in a card game, and a face-down card has no identifying features (like card type) unless otherwise stated; therefore, a card that targets a Unit, Artifact, Beast, etc. cannot target a card which is face-down.
