The entire weapons system in this game is a joke. It never should have had the "looter shooter" element shoehorned into it. ... We needed these weapons to be lootable and craftable, without levels, but with a ton of modding and upgrading support, like the Metro games, Ghost Recon Wildlands or Deus Ex Mankind Divided.
Let us sit down at a workbench and craft attachments and muzzle devices like suppressors, optics, buttstocks, drop in trigger systems, grips, handguards, IR pointers, recoil reduction kits, and other mods of the more futuristic variety. Imagine being able to sit down and add modules into your tech shotgun to make it "overdrive" and make a much bigger blast, or loot a truly iconic weapon mod from a boss's damaged gun and use it to upgrade a gun or sword you've been using and cherishing for many hours already in-game. You can't cherish weapons like that in a loot system like this. It does nothing but cheapen the experience. They could have done such a good job with a crafting and modding system, and that would have far outweighed this ridiculous, out of place looter shooter system.
They could also still have added "iconic" weapons that have special traits and abilities, just without the stupid level system. And even have added iconic mods that turn basic weapons into iconic ones, like a trigger that makes your revolver empty its entire cylinder in one trigger pull, or a mod for a shotgun that hooks it up to a tube leading to a pack on your belt, and it siphons massive pellets directly into the chamber and fires them full-auto. A weapon made out of nanobots that can turn from a sword into an assault rifle, or a knife into a handgun with a flourish of your hand. Imagine throwing a nano-knife at the enemy, and it entering their body and wreaking havoc.
SO many possibilities, but such wasted potential on such a generic, unexciting, low effort loot and crafting system.
