How exactly "ignore" button works on this forum? For example can ignore person write in my threads etc.?

As far as I know, Ignore simply hides the ignored person's posts from your view, until/unless you unignore the person or click this button within a thread:

It also affects PMs, to some extent. I don't recall the exact details.
