switching 1.7 on and off

+
1.7 makes too many big changes for my liking.

to all the developers listening, will you add in the feature to 'switch off' the changes made by 1.7 if we want. i want to play the old version once in a while. also the concept of cyberpsychosis is stupid and angsty. it makes sense from a tabletop viewpoint, because it forces balance but this is a single player game. it doesnt need it.

Im not sure thats even possible to do without having to reinstall everything every time you change. Most core files will have to change so much. Oh and save compability would be a nightmare -.- I do hope they give a BETA option for 1.61 or 62 for those that cant run 1.7 tho

but other games are able to switch dlcs on and off. for example dragon age origins. im talking about the way the stats work especially. i really like maxing out intelligence right now.

But the 1.7 (or whatever the N° it will have) is not a DLC/expansion, it's the game iteself. I'm pretty sure the changes you're referring to will be added by the update which be released along the expansion ;)

1.7 is coming in september right. i hope the devs still have time to implement this option.

also hopefully character partitions when it comes to saving. i know someone else asked for that too.

You don't understand, it's not an option they CAN add.

It's not a DLC, it's a patch. It's either on that version number or it's a previous number. It will absolutely require downloading version specific files. Saves from 1.7 will likely not work on previous version number.

No other game offers the ability to "turn on/off" version numbers. It WILL require redownloading a sizeable number of files.

You can always just disable auto updates and not get the newest version if you think it will change too much. 1.7(or whatever they end up calling it) will not be a DLC it will be a patch to the base game, Phantom Liberty will be the paid DLC part, It's important to remember that core changes and story DLC will be different and CDPR have not fully disclosed what will be part of 1.7 and what will be PL exclusive.

So if you're unsure if you will like the changes or want to wait for reviews first, just disable updates and wait a little.

You can also roll back to an older version if you're on PC so you will have options. But an on off switch for 1.7 or PL is very unlikely.

Cyberpsychosis was one of the things the players were asking for. It makes sense in the game, you want superpowers, and you pay the price.
nope. it doesnt make sense at all. superpowers dont need to come with a price. that just the opinion of people obsessed with grim derp. or somehow feel guilty for having those powers. in this case the community is out of its gourd.

then to any and all devs reading this, is it possible you can provide a separate download of the game as it is before 1.7. like on your website or on gog or something like that? in this case the user would be able to download and play the old version.

The GoG app has the option to disable auto-updates as well as roll back to older versions. Go to game page in the app, then go to manage installation > Configure and you will have all of the options for DLC and game versions. It will look like the screen shot below.

And to add to @DjSpyder's post. It seems likely they'll release a beta branch like they did the next-gen update of The Witcher 3 on Steam. You can switch on that beta branch to revert back to 1.62 if you forgot to disable auto-updates and updated to 1.7.

Be warned that staying on 1.62 will surely lock you out of the new content added by PL if you decide to buy the expansion.

I cannot definitively say what CDPR will keep as an option, because at the end of the day it's up to them so I could easily be wrong.

But as of right now, there are 5 previous versions going back 7 months' worth of updates. SO, assuming CDPR keeps a similar number of previous versions available you should be able to go back at least as far as 1.62 for at least some time after 1.7/PL releases. But Only the Devs can say for sure how long they'll keep older versions available.

My guess is the current version "1.62_PT_Hotfix" will stay available for at least a few months if people wanted to roll back, but only time will tell.

If CDPR do what they already did with The Witcher 3 (and the next gen update), the current game version will be avaialble :)
On GOG, it's sure. As far as I know, on GOG you can easily return to 1.5 (patch released 2 years ago). On Steam, the 1.62 will be available too (as BETA). The only exception would be on Epic... sadly (due to Epic I guess).

thank you. that makes me feel a little better and makes my FOMO anxiety subside a little bit. i still would feel much better if we could get official word from a cdpr employee on here. not that i dont trust your tips but word of god is the be all and end all.

You will most likely not get an official answer on this for months if at all before release.

And it's not a tip about GOG. If you're on GOG, this will be a feature. It's been a feature of GOG for a long time now. It's CDPR's own platform and they understand the utility of patch roll back. Steam is up in the air at this point but very likely. EPIC is a no-go because... well, EPIC.

We're confident because on GOG, it's a feature available for all games (I guess) and on Steam, CDPR used a "trick" for The Witcher 3 to let the original version available (and I don't see any reason why they wouldn't apply the same method for Cyberpunk, knowning the requirements will change).

Here on the The Witcher 3 support > I want to revert to an earlier version of the game
(so in short, whatever the reason, on GOG and Steam, you're able to return to the orginal version of the game easily).

what was the trick they used on steam.

what was the trick they used on steam.

They made it into a ''beta'' branch.

Essentially you have to right click your game in your Steam library - properties - betas and you get an option under the scroll down menu.

If you select the old, pre-NGE, beta branch you revert back to that version. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do it with CP2077 if there is any truth to the new system requirements. It would allow people who can't meet the new minimum requirements to keep on playing.

On the other hand, they could treat it entirely as a normal patch and not offer the option at all on Steam.

Again, GOG is a definite yes. Steam is a maybe at this point and EPIC is absolutely no but that's because the EPIC store is functionally barebones.
