To shoot or not to shoot — that’s not a question you hear often in Night City, but don’t worry, we’re talking about photos this time. In the City of Dreams, there’s always a story waiting to be captured. Now, it’s your turn to uncover it. Step into the role of a street-savvy stringer for “Night City Today” and take on our Cyberpunk 2077 Photo Mode Challenge. Show us Night City through your lens.

Your editor-in-chief has two feature stories in mind, and it’s your call which one you wanna chase — or maybe you wanna try both? Hit the streets armed with nothing but your Kiroshis and an eye for the perfect shot. Here’s what’s on the table:

Wheels of Night City

Dive deep into the world of CHOOH2, slick rides, and revving engines. Snap anything that rolls, roars, or races… and make it out in one piece.

Faces of Night City

A great photographer sees past the mask and into the soul. Reveal the heart of Night City by capturing its people and letting their faces tell the story.

Here’s what you need to know for your photo-journalist assignments:

Do:
  • Use only the in-game Photo Mode for your submission.Explore and use all the features of Photo Mode — no restrictions.Ensure your screenshot fits with the theme of your chosen category.
Don’t:
  • Edit the screenshot using external software (flipping or cropping is fine).Submit more than one screenshot per category.
Time’s ticking, chooms! Freelance reporters thrive on tight deadlines, and this one’s no exception. You’ve got until January 7th, 2025, at 4:00 PM CET to submit your work. Use the dedicated submission form to get your photo-ops in before the clock runs out.

The editorial board — featuring CD PROJEKT RED team members and virtual photography pros — will select three winning shots for each category. The results of the challenge will be revealed publicly by the end of January 2025, and the winners will score some seriously awesome prizes from Insert Coin, Displate, and MADRINAS.

Want the full scoop? From the detailed task order to the complete ruleset and FAQ, everything you need is on the Cyberpunk 2077 Photo Mode Challenge website. Good luck out there!

Very excited about the new photo mode challenge!

Could you give a little more detail about what kind of mods exactly we are allowed to use for the submissions? I have seen the FAQ secition about community mods, but I am looking for a little more clarification.
I love taking photos of a (visually) heavily modded Cyberpunk, but I want to make sure not to be disqualified just because of that.

Mod categories I am most concerned about include:

Visuals & Graphics
  • In-Game lighting (LUTs)
  • Textures
Appearance
  • Custom clothing
  • Skin textures
  • Nails and Makeup
  • Custom hair
  • Body mods (including tattoos, cyberware)
Photo mode enhancements
  • Poses
  • Facial expressions
  • Additional lighting

If you could comment on which of these would be appropriate to use, that would be very helpful!

Hi!
I recently submitted my photo (a few days ago) for the Wheels of Night City, but it hasn't shown up on the website. I tried resubmitting it, but it says that I have already submitted a photo to this category. Is there something I need to do to get it to show up on the website? Photo below.

I don't think so, but each submition have to be validated manually for good reason. If it says you already submitted a screenshot, it should be fine ;)

Haha, was looking around and noticed the Dr Who reference - I love this community! I also noticed a very familiar looking person on the Dr Who mobile game cover. Thank you for reviving my interest in Cyberpunk again, again, and again. Keep up the great work CDPR.

Im playing on 5120x1440(32:9) is it allowed to go into the photo mode and do with F12 (GOG Screenshot) a screenshot, if i dont do that, the photo gets bugged (the photo gets shrinked to 16:9 and a person will look ultra thin)

For all of you wondering about why your submission isn't displayed in the gallery: I don't know for sure, but I would expect it is the same as with previous photo mode contests, and your entry is simply awaiting verification (or has been rejected if it happened to not follow all of the contest's rules). They most likely have received a gigantic number of entries again so verification, which isn't an automated process, could take even weeks.

The same question came up during the first and second photo mode contest, and from the 2023 one there are two RED posts on the topic (both of which I paraphrased): first, second.
