Thoughts for a police mod

+
I was listening to the Cyberpunk Lorecast today, about the NCPD; and one of the participants said it would be fun to be able to play as a police officer in the Cyberpunk world...

And I thought, OK, yes, that would be cool. By having a mod which introduces a new story into a world after main game completion, the game state tells you what V has done during the game (at least, the major plot related actions taken, relationships, et cetera). So how about: you start this mod as a new character, who has to investigate 'crimes' V is suspected of -- and the V you get to investigate, and to interact with or interview, is your own V, the V you have just played?

So, firstly, what is the 'crime'? In pretty much any playthrough, I think, there are things V does which can at least be presented as pretty bad. V can still be framed for the murder of Saburo Arasaka, whatever happens; but V could also be wanted for the downing of the Kang Tao flyer, for the death of Woodman, for various other things. I like the idea that the 'crime' should vary based on what V has actually done in the game, falling back on the murder of Saburo Arasaka only if V has done a very clean 'non-lethal' run.

But this being Cyberpunk, the police officer character may be told that they're investigating V for and what the actual motivation is should be different. Someone, probably in politics, recognises V as one of the most able mercenaries and wants a hook to be able to blackmail V into doing something highly unethical (probably an assassination)

At the same time there should be a major side plot, and the side plot I'm liking just now is that Militech, acting as a proxy for the nUSA government, is attempting a hostile takeover of the (privatised) NCPD, as part of a longer term plan to reconquer both North and South California. The politician who is trying to blackmail V is not part of the nUSA plot.

You start as a junior cruiser patrol officer. Your senior officer does something corrupt, and you witness this; your first choice is whether to cover for your boss, in which case they will recommend you for promotion into homicide, or to report your boss to Internal Affairs, in which case you'll get moved sideways into special investigations, because your old patrol colleagues are angry with you for having grassed up your boss.

In your new role you'll get sent to investigate something. I like the idea that if you've chosen an African-American style appearance you get sent undercover to look into something with the Voodoo Boys, if East Asian the Tyger Claws, if Caucasian the 6th Street Gang; but that may just be a wee bit ambitious. In any case you start to make some breakthroughs in your investigation and they're leading towards uncovering some really big scandal, when you're suddenly taken off that investigation and told to investigate V.

So there are four broad ways forward from that point, all of which you can pursue to one extent or another. You can continue with the investigation you've been told to drop (which probably implicates the person who wants to blackmail V); you can investigate V, as ordered; you can investigste why you've been asked to investigate V; and you can investigate who is buying up NCPD stock and why.

At some stage in these investigations you'll get a choice about whether to tell V what you're doing in one or more of these investigations, with one of the possible outcomes being that, while still officially investigating V for the 'crime', you're actually cooperating with V (remember, this is your V, the one you played) to investigate one or more of the deeper plots.

Thoughts?
