How do you mod weapons? I noticed Angela Deth has skills in weapon smithing but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Granted I'm really far behind, haven't been playing that much.
Weaponsmiths can right-click on weapons and salvage them. You'll either get a mod, or mess up and get broken pieces. However, there may be a ranger in the Citadel that has an interest in those broken pieces

Nice! I have been collecting a bunch of weapons I don't need with the hopes of selling them. Guess I'll take some of them apart instead.
Also I don't know why there were complaints about the combat. It's just as good as XCOM's. In fact, I think it's more intricate (considering all the weapon/ammo/armor types).
You need:
- a moddable weapon
- a weapons mod
- a weaponsmith with appropriate skill
The mods have increasing demand for levels in weaponsmithing. Needless to say, the coolest mods require really high weaponsmithing - i'm currently at level 7, but not being able to use those shiny mods is just not acceptable
Looks like the Linux patch is here. Snuck in since I expected a notification or something considering the notifications I received in the past when GOG introduced an update to something as minor as a Baldurs Gate soundtrack. Unfortunately, the update seems to have changed every file in the game which means a monstrous full game download for the Linux version
Apparently the FLAC version of the score was never intended to be included with any of the digital releases of Wasteland 2 in the first place:
We had to pull it from GOG.com due to licensing agreements with the composer. Lossless was supposed to be exclusive to stand-alone purchases. Sorry guys!
Bit of a dick move by both Mark Morgan and inXile to not give a headsup about the FLACs being pulled but what can you do.
Sucks for the folks that didn't download all the additional stuff including the FLAC score right away.
In other, more positive news - Patch No. 2 is expected to drop by the end of the week.
Went north to the rail nomads camp, tried to help with the competing tribe but got my ass handed to me so I put it on hold and went back south to the prison. Ran around, reached Red and wanted to explore the actual prison grounds but the RSM are are really well equipped. Back to citadel. On the way there stopped at a robot infested area where I found three Slice Dicers that obliterated me. It's like walking on thin ice everywhere I go!
Got the radiation suits now and will try to reach Damonta.
Any suggestions? Why are all these areas so heavily armed? Guess I'll have to resist the urge to explore for now. Lots of fun regardless.
Been playing more these last few evenings.

Yeah, those slicers dicers are nasty... Good tactic is to concentrate fire on one and quickly get him below 50%hp, then it's possible to reprogram it using computer science. After that you can easily take rest down - they loose interest in your party and mostly jump around themselves.
Not sure what weapons you use, if assault rifles it's good to buy M16 in citadel ASAP. Energy weapons are also very good later on.
BTW, it's good to fight every possible enemies, combat XP is MUCH higher than skill/quest xp, and you will need it...
It's even better to farm the Diamondback Militia in the Valley of the Titan for AK47s (better armor penetration and slightly better damage than M16 - uses 7.62mm! Start collecting those bullets even before you have guns for them, you'll need them for the whole rest of the game).
Also you definitely should sneak into the underground Temple of Titan and get the Toaster item there... you DON'T want to miss it.
You need the depleted uranium to give it to Mercaptain at the citadel - only with that you get the best energy weapon / one of the best weapons in the whole game.
Be warned - you really need to sneak, without any sneaking mechanics implemented in the game, i.e. keeping out of sight, sometimes lockpicking under time pressure before the guard returns.
I'm close to the end of the first half in my second run, this time on Ranger difficulty, I ditched Angela Deth as soon as possible and saved Highpool instead of Ag Center, and tuned my ranger builds for high combat initiative - way more important than mere AP count. All in all my second run is even a lot more fun than the first one, since I now know what I'm doing.
Btw, I never fight random encounters on the world map if I can avoid it - ammunition (especially for assault rifles) is more of an issue than a few XP more or less.

TBH i have never had problems with ammo, loot from human encounters usually is worth more than bullets i had used (I am playing on ranger difficulty too, and I have three assault rifle users). You just have to remember to buy it in every possible shop
As for random encounters I usually avoid them too... i'm too lazy ^^

We all do. I'm pro assault rifles and avoiding random encounters
So I'm not doing anything wrong, it's just the game doesn't expect us to wipe every possible area? No prob. I can revisit the prison later, right?
Don't get me wrong, I like the difficulty. It was just a little unexpected that everyone but me is heavily armed
When should I enter the prison and visit the second part of the rail nomads camp?
Right now I have a famas rifle but could purchase an M16 at the citadel. I have a decent shotgun and a good energy gun I looted from a small RSM M group in the valley, when they were harassing me for weapon taxes.
I'm loving it but haven't had much play time lately.
Most areas are doable when you first visit them, but you can see which order of locations the devs had in mind, i.e. especially in Arizona you can go to some places before you have heard about them, and you will probably have difficulties when you try to murder everything there. The prison can only be resolved close to the half of the game, before that you can't pass the turrets and minefield in front of the entrance. RNC can be done more or less anytime after you did Ag Center / Highpool and the Radio Tower. You should definitely get M16s as fast as you can, the only better gun in AZ is the AK 47, and even that is only a slight upgrade.
Well I bought an M16, slightly modified it, and coupled with Angela Deth's FAMAS I simply ripped through those rail thieves! Add to that a bit of help from my sniper and a couple of melee attacks to finish off the weakened units. Weapons make SUCH a huge difference. It's like I was playing with a handicap. Feels kind of easy now
Anyway, on my way to solve the Atchinson-Topeka feud, bought a CD-I and gained a level or two.
I am really liking this game overall. I love all the descriptions and the NPC reactions to even little things. Also I like the Kickstarter ability (Southwestern Lore).
