It's called ice swimming. Very common here in Finland.

Well, you people are officially crazy. :p

I fell through ice once when I was hunting and I had a 40 minute hike back to my truck. Early stage hypothermia set in and I was damn near hallucinating. In Yellowstone park, not far from my home there's the boiling river, where super-heated water spills into a section, and you can swap the cold and hot parts. That I do enjoy.

From what I understand what they do in Finland is go from a hot steam room to icy cold water and then repeat. I don't think they just like jumping in the water randomly and unprepared :p
