Gwent Up Meta report (23-29 Dec)

I haven't played Gwent for more than a week because of the latest update and looking at the new meta report and I'm pretty sure that I won't come back before the next patch. Balancing seems to be worse than ever during open beta.

When you have five factions and at the top level almost 40% are playing the same faction, you know balancing is nowhere to be found. What use is for all the new mechanics and cards if at the end of the day most is not even remotely used? I have to admit, this is getting frustratingly tedious and much less fun.

It's no surprise that the RNG leader are at the bottom. What does surprise me is that so many people are playing dwarfs. While I see a lot of dwarfs, I don't see *that* many. Sure, the deck is strong, but not stronger than other decks that I have seen. Maybe it's because it's an easy auto-pilot deck, probably.

I'm surprised it's only 31%, while playing ranked it's usually 3 out of 5.

I played dorfs a bit and they are really fun to play so i can understand the popularity especially since some very popular streamers have been promoting "casino" versions of it.
But i really can't say they feel OP. Just well rounded deck that has no huge bodies that burn too much and in the current meta where it's all about big boo.. i mean bodies and scorch they just work well. Really well.

Too much easy tempo.
From my point of view it is looks like there is no strategy or win conditions. Just play dwarf that will pull/boost/strengthen another dwarfs etc. No weather to clear, no bodies to lock, no engineers to kill..

And now my opponents opening move in R3 was 30 points in three bodies of different values (leader+silver+bronze). Just how any other deck suppose to counter it?

I don't play ranked since the patch, but the casual is terrible too. Bears, dwarfs, reveals. Thats all. And the "RNG": need a Spy? Here you are. Need somthing to be locked? No problem: a lock unit...In the beginning (after the patch) it was really fun. But now...bad, really bad.

I'm in that awkward area between 4k and 4.25k and it's just the same 2 decks over and over again. Dwarfs and Reveal. Sick to death of seeing these two decks. Nobody seems to be playing monsters at this mmr range and only on rare occasions do I see Bears. If you're reading this and you don't play a dwarf or reveal deck then you gain my immediate respect for being different

Ur surprised about dorfws ?
How about the new op cards which can ress dwarfes ? I dont know whos responsible for this but the devs statement was that only skellige should be the ressurecion faction (NR medics no longer ress units).

And now we have the new dwarfes as the new skellige lol, buffing base strengh and getting ressed.
Anyway the dorwfs puts stupid strengh on the board without specific kombos and the gold cards of ST are strong aswell.

Mantion the other equally strong decks pls. So maybe ladder will be at least playable^^

qft ^

in all fairness, i've only been playing a few days and am only at rank 15 in ranked. but from my limited perspective, save spoopy lady and the leaders that are literally nowhere to be found, the balance seems decent. in this case i mainly feel that dwarves have such a high win rate because players choose to play it so often (braindead deck, which is fine and preferable to most), not that it has such a high play rate because it's so unbelievably good.

this game is in closed beta and the stats are clearly not following the usual trends. for instance, according to that chart two leaders in the top 1/3 of competitive win percentages are played in less than half of a percent of all games. something is afoot and while balance may well be part of it there's clearly a lot else going on.

i'm more disheartened by radovid of all things. silence is such a garbage ability in this game compared to other CCGs, and a whole leader just having the power to apply it twice? we'd need to see lock-synergy cards added to NR or his ability buffed to "lock all enemy units" before he could even be considered playable.

I use Radovid quite a bit and I think you're underestimating him. Not only does he silence 2 units, he drops a 6 power body and deals 8 points of damage if the locked units are enemies (14 point swing+ 2x silence). The effect is lessened if you're shutting down spies such as iris. He also crews

There isn't much support to his particular control style in the game but he does have an impact when played

Reveal used to be fun but way not competitive deck...do I still get your respect if I don't use wyvern shield/ strengthen+emhyr?

oh Wyvern shield is the most stupid :p but a bit of advice on facing it

Either
1) Invest in a Scorch or two
or
2) Win the first round and bleed them to death in the second. keep your finisher for the third and take them down after they've played the stupid wyvern shields and spotters. Its setup is low tempo after all

As for the reports, to get back on topic, I am saddened by the Elder :p people clearly don't use him right or make gimmick decks with him. He is a very powerful leader if used right.

Yeah right....

I don't say this often but that deck is broken. It's worse than playing dwarves.

This is exactly it. No downside, with good cards. Basically, it's almost impossible to have a bad hand, like with NG spies or other decks. No setup cards to lock and prevent strategies, just spam dwarves. And then more dwarves that spawn elves that spawn more dwarves.

probably the reason that all the bots also play dwarfs
