Important announcement regarding Cyberpunk 2077 release date

+
Game has been delayed, welcome to game industry...here is a list of some games and the times they were delayed, some in detail and others whatever. Enough evidence that its not just 2077 OMG CDPR SUCKS!

Breath of the Wild. (2 years)
Team fortress 2, (8-10 years)
Prey, (11 years)
FF XV. (6 years + another 6 )during the name change, game change etc.
Pillars of Eternity, (1 Year)

But lets stick with this year on games that have been delayed due to all the various current year logistics or other reasons.

Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel’s Avengers, Dying Light 2, and Final Fantasy VII Remake , Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Skull & Bones, Doom Eternal (Nov 2019 - March 2020), The Last of Us Part 2 (Feb 2020 -June 2020). Metroid Prime 4 (restarted development), Watch Dogs :Legion, Rainbow six :Quarentine. Many of which were announced for 2019 release dates originally...
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, and some other games that aren't even as technical or indepth as 2077 that have also been delayed from end of last year to this year and have yet to be released.

The list goes on....and some of those on the list are now Q1 2021. Doesn't even include the ones that are in pre-release forever stages.

But yes, blind hatred for 2077 or CDPR and the Devs, because you can't have in your hands when they promised it. Reality check, life doesn't work out the way its planned all the time or the way you want it to. No matter how much of a vocal minority screams on the forums about it.

Oh, I get it! They are not alone in this, so... it's fine.

How naive of us to think they had to show some professionalism and a little bit of respect. That they had to keep their word. But no.

Sure: lying, cheating or stealing (just some examples of bad behaviours) is wrong... but is wrong as long as you are the only one doing it. Instead, if a lot of people do the same, then it becomes perfectly fine. Now I get it, thanks.

No, it's not fine. But this example you've quoted just solidifies the fact, that "shit happens". It's not that they have postponed the launch of the game just to make you feel bad.

Regardless of delays and my dwindling ability to defend CDPR for crud like this, I'd still be willing to claim that we can expect Cyberpunk 2077 to launch at least before Spring 2021. I'm willing to stake money on that.

Anyone now jumping the shark and declaring that it'll never launch is indulging in hyperbole.

The delays have been getting shorter and for all we know, it's only a matter of porting to several platforms.

Like I mentioned in my dwindling ability to defend CDPR though, I'm fully prepared to turn out the fool by the 10th of December.

Yeah, but there's a difference between "it's not fine" and "shit happens".

Shit doesn't just happen. It's not fine and it's bad management. Not just "shit happening".

Should costumers be less naieve? Yes. Should CDPR get its thumb out of its orifice? Also yes.

People here should be less angry because they should've been less naive and revolve their lives less around the release of a game, coming from the gaming industry. That's on them.
That doesn't make their grievances less legitimate though. We SHOULD be able to expect better. We also SHOULD'VE seen it coming.

It's the ol' "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst" adage. Lower your hopes, expect less.

Well, yes? Sometimes shit just happen? Like global pandemic f. ex? I'm not saying that this is the main reason for delay and it should just absolve CDPR management of all the blame - just stating the fact that sometimes you just cannot plan for everything.

Just checked in with my Boss and unlike that guy on Twitter I can't reschedule my holidays.
will CDPR send me free stuff too to apologize?
probably not because this is not as public as that toxic cesspool and it would not generate as much "omg cdpr is so generous"-hype.

Man, I get the "shit happen" thing, I really do. But this is not some... amateur production, it's not a little game created by an ambitious kid in his room. This is a AAA game. It's much more complex and complicated to realize? Sure, I get it. But the truth is that with the huge amount of income, with money and fame, also come responsabilities, expectations, duties.

You can't expect people to give you their trust, their money, their patience and to ask nothing in return. That's not realistic. This industry (all the gaming industry, not just CDPR) has to grow up. Shit can happen, sure, but they can happen once, maybe twice - then, it's your fault, you're not working properly. And the fact that other people before you were as much as unprofessional or even more... it's not an excuse nor a justification.

That said, death threats or insults are NOT fine at all, of course. But the customers (again: not spoiled brats, not loving friends, not just enthusiasts: PAYING CUSTOMERS) have all the right to be upset and trying instead to picture them - as someone does - as naive or childish for expecting/asking professionality and respect it's not fine either. Imho, obv. :)

Disappointing. What a company you are CDPR.
At this point in time I am just curious to see what records your leadership will break, or set, in the name of profit because it's just good business, for the next titles.

Your current title I hope it will launch without game breaking bugs.

Regarding the new release date it will be a miracle to be true and not get delayed to next year.
December it is a holiday month where developers take, or should take, vacation.
It is not a good time for ugly bugs to be alive.

Yeah, I'm not buing another CDPR bosses "promise" either. They should just stop saying that. They are rightfully getting flak for this.

And yes: threats and abuse are not OK and people doing that should be banned from every social medium there is.

The thing is: A game like cyberpunk 2077 WILL sell, no matter how angry we are. Thats precisely why they dare make moves like this. I just want the CDPR apologists to go away with their unending spiel about how CDPR is better than any other aaa-developer. Get over it.

Avengers launched so badly it would have been better if it hadn't released at all. Last of Us Part 2 only launched when it did because of all the leaks, Bloodlines 2 & Dying Light 2 have completely vanished from sight.
Point is that you are comparing Apples to Elephants.

Avengers even with bad launch came out when they say it will, Last of Us came out after leak, but still came out, why CP didn't come out when in 2018 there was leak audio of first demo, Dying Light 2 didn't even have date if i remamber right, so only Bloodlines 2 had delay and only one before they say it won't come this year.

CP2077 have 3 date so far and CDPR always said next date is 100% sure and set in stone, and then ops hey sorry again for this you know this new date is 100% sure and then again same story, 3 time you can't say people are angry without reason and that CDPR are inocent.

Well, they are still (at least for now) better than "most" of the other studios. F. ex. they are providing plenty of DLC content for free after the game launch. They don't put up different game versions on release to squeeze even more money from gamers. And they expansions are not part of the game game which was cut to sell it later, but fully fledged add-ons.

I'm not really pissed (another delay, big deal), but I understand why other people are. CDPR need to learn how to keep promises. It's question of trust and good faith. Seriously, is it really hard to not announce a date if there's a possibility you won't make it? Reddit is in total meltdown.

I'm just really sorry for all the people who took a vacation and can't reschedule it now.
I totally get their frustration.

But I'm also sorry for all the developers who have now to work more overtime AND (unjustifiedly) get the blame for the delay. It's not their fault, it's the management's fault for not planning according to real circumstances but (for example) to appease shareholders' expectations.

AND on the other hand: They also have to keep the whole business profitable to ensure that their developers can keep their jobs. And that we keep getting great products from them.

So, if we just cool down a bit and think about it: It is the right decision to make under the circumstances right now, despite all I have mentioned. Imagine if the game came out faulty. CDPR would lose way more credibility which is mostly based on the quality of their product, than they are maybe losing now.

Yeah this is not a move that many people are happy with.
I am fortunate enough that I was able to reschedule my vacation time, but I get that not everyone is able to do that.
Now it would suit CDPR nicely with some from of compensation to the loyal customers, because this is as others have pointed out a breach of the "contract" of the preorder where we pay them money in order to receive a product on the specified date.
My idea for compensation would be that every preordered copy (so only those customers who have been loyal and faithful) will get a free season pass, so that the DLC's will be included in the preorders at no additional cost.

But yeah I am disappointed with the delay, but I will deal with it. I am still confident that it is going to be an amazing game that I will enjoy for a very long time.

Any triple a game will sell. No matter what.

But once you lose trust of people is hard to get it back, people don't forget easily when someone is piss them off/disrespect them, even if CP2077 turn out to be good game, many will never again full going to trust them when they promiss something or say they will do.

There were some articles (I dont trust them) saying CP2077 pre-order numbers were disappointing. To be honest, I believe they are low precisely because the public has lost faith in the AAA-companies. This sort of thing is precisely opposite of what they have to do to reinstate that faith. If game companies base their financial plans on pre-orders, they had best take heed.

In honesty: no they didn't. They said they were "confident" in the dates. Only the last, november date they claimed to be actually confirmed.

I was talking about CDPR as company and their game and future games, they may not close down after this, but people will rember this bad things, people tend to remember bad things far far longer then good things, their reputation will suffer a lot.

I just heard about the delay and understand the reasons behind it. I love all your design choices so far. I understand why you have made all the choices that you have. I know this game is going to knock peoples socks off. The reason that people are nervous about the game is because of how the gaming industry currently is and how shady a good portion of developers are and how they trick their consumers. I just wanted to give you some positive feedback and thank you for everything you have done. I thought this genre would be well established by now, not take 30 years to come around. My hope is that is reignites the genre and gets alot of competiton (cyberpunk genre is my favorite for over 30 years now). I dislike all the third person, jump spamming, constant arcade style gaming with flashy lights and constant achievement dopamine hits. Like some sort of terribad mobile gaming casino. I've missed the old school days of Deus Ex and being immersed in a world with variable options and endings where I have to take everything at least a little bit seriously. I actually have to peek around a door or cover, I can't exploit the camera in third person.

My biggest complaint about sci-fi games in general is that there is never a balance. It's ALWAYS dystopian and some sort of weird depressive environment of some emo teen. I can only stomach so much of other games because it's post apocalyptic ALL the time. There is never any release. When you can dance between pretty and ugly, dark and light, perspective good and perspective bad, and actually interact with characters and that interaction evolves, it just makes for something exponentially more that's just not built into games anymore. People have NO idea how incredible it is because its been removed from the gaming industry in general. People will see soon enough. I know you have alot on your plate but my only request would be to release this game before December 31st. To release the game in the year it was orginally created to play in is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Trying to get the game to work on potato machines is too much of a burden for you to bear. The hype is there, the sales will be there and your investors should be appeased. No reason to delay it well into 2021 so that people on Atari and Commodore machines can play it too.

We all know day 1 is going to be terrible. Unfound bugs, unexpected glitches, and crying console kiddies are going to fly at you by the Trainload. It's GOING to happen and overwhelm you. Just like the Witcher 3 release. If the deadline you want to reach in December can't be reached, I would recommend posting a HUGE red banner over the download saying it needs to be patched. Please be patient, don't go wailing on reddit. Just go ahead and release it and let us patch it. I know the game will not be playable for many on day 1. There is just no way a game this size can be. I'm still trying to build my computer and get it finished so i'm not in a hurry too much. The computer I have now can play the minimum specs but there is just no way I'm going to play this game on starfox or wow vanilla settings. NOT happening. I've waited 30 years for this experience. I will make sure to play it right. Please do not burden yourselves with trying to get it to run on potato.

Once again thank you for everything. It was my dream to build a game like this but i'm glad you are making it instead. I now get to enjoy it without spoiling it.
