So from my understanding this whole gaming journalism debate escalated and now women are getting death threat trolls and thats what the media focusses on, rather than discussing the issue that sparked it all and talking about the problem of the integrity of gaming journalism. All those women keep talking about 'their friends' that got harrassed. Doesn't that basically raise some questions on how the people working in the gaming journalism network are closely related to one another? How they are related to all sorts of media outlets and thus covering things up by blowing it up on the media? Even international press is involved apparantly, but instead of doing their research, all they talk about is how women are getting threats because they have a strong preference for games that are more female friendly.
On that point I think it's the artists free creativity on how they want to present women. Throwing women in there with big breasts and showing off cleavage just for the sake of attraction and/or interest is tasteless. And it is often criticised nowadays anyway. If you make your women in games shallow, the game will not sell that well. Of course it depends on the type of games as well. Games are a work of fiction and if that fiction resolves around a world that depicts women as inferior creatures than men. That is the world of the game. Heck in the TV/Movie/Music world they have depicted women as lust objects for decades and as degrading as it might be, not much of a damn is given.
What it all boils down to is capitalism and the corruption it brings with it. Why would that be? Isn't it a leftist movement who is all about socialism and equality? No, this does not have anything to do with socialism or even equality. It's all about:
money
Companies, networking and people knowing people. Paying money to shut up, or to speak out. To cover things up. And wether it's misogyny , racism, or whatever excuse they can find, they'll use it to put the focus on. I have doubts they give a rat's arse about it at all. It's all about the money. They don't want to be brought into bad daylight Since stakeholders, partners and investors are important to them for their income. So it is in their best interest to cover things up. Now if you work in 'gaming' journalism, you are a journalist and if you work in that branch, there's a good chance you know other journalists and media people. This creates a big shield of people protecting each others asses. It's a called manipulation and corruption. That's what is the REAL thing that pisses people off and I would guess this is what 'gamergate' is about. Not that I did thát much research into it.
Just my two cents.
