So about Iorveth and Philippa...

In act 3 Geralt and Iorveth escort our favourite sorceress to find the spellbreaker. Of course, Philippa doesn't disappoint us and grabs the first chance she sees to escape, by trasforming into an owl. My question is, if Iorveth is the leader of the Scoiatel, and the Scoiatels are supposed to be the best archers in the world, then why on earth doesn't he just shoot the owl? Hell, there is nothing obscuring his vision, he has his bow strapped to his back... all he needs is draw an arrow and be done with it.

Your thoughts?

Getting blasted by a powerful sorceress can't be too great for your aiming skills, and also gives her more than enough time to get out of range. Iorveth may be a good archer, but he hasn't got supernatural powers.

Well, Philippa wasn't in better shape anyway. She was blind, wounded, famished, exhausted. That ought to render your magic casting ability. Remember when Geralt told her to use a painkilling spell and she said she couldn't? So I doubt that blast has a lot of power to give Iorveth a concussion serious enough to affect his aiming.

Fair point, but why would she tell the truth at all; She is trying to play them on their sympathy the whole time.

Philippa was lying to Geralt, overplaying her weakness to build up the energy for a stunning blast and transformation spell. A shame there isn't an option just to nod to Iorveth, and he cuts her throat.

This is kind of an inane observation, but keep in mind Phillipa is arguably the most powerful person in the game. Iorveth was lucky not to be reduced to ashes.

Are you for real?

Try to get someone pluck out both your eyes and see if you can tell left from right, much less aim a perfect spell to reduce somebody to ashes.

Well, don't try it except if you are a powered sorceress... and even being the best archer in the universe, try yourself to restore balance, react to the surprise of the target which has been reduced in size inversely proportional to its speed, take your bow and arrow and point to .... an elusive owl (not a cannonball ...) flying into a sky lit desperate to save her life? ...

Right.

Know who Im Dong Hyun is? South Korean. Blind. Archer. Set world record at Olympics. Read it again. Blind. And he can hit a grapefruit at the distance of 70 meters.

And he is just a 'human'. As an elf who has been living for hundreds of years, had hundreds of years to practice archery, I expect Iorveth to be a great deal better than this 'human'.

Skipping the "Philippa needs to be alive in TW3" answer, Iorveth was hit by a spell and looked more concerned about warning Geralt, since he understood what she said in Elder language (I think that's what happened, at least). Remember that the dagger (or rather, Saskia) is the priority here. Though I do feel Iorveth never lived up to his ~ merciless killer~ reputation in the game, he only kills those two guards in Chapter 3 and a handful of people while helping you. No idea what's up with that, but eh :/

As for Philippa, she is damn powerful even blind - she burns two soldiers to death within seconds in the Enhanced edition ending. She probably could've done the same to Geralt and Iorveth if she hadn't been blind and trying to get out first and foremost.

Philippa was never the goal for Iorveth, therefore she being dead or not, was never of that major importance to Iorveth. The main goal for Iorveth was Saskia, Philippa was merely brought there as insurance she wasn't full of shit regarding Saskia's case.

If Philippa didn't say that Saskia could have been helped she would be killed on spot by Iorveth however as we know that weren't the case, Iorveth ignored his personal vendetta and focused on the bigger picture, which is kinda funny when you think about it cause this was a very similar notion to what he did with Roach if he won the fight in the woods in Act 1.

Iorveth ain't actually that mindless killer acting vengeance and vendetta as he see fit but are rather much more methodical, so his initial thought when she ran away was not "I rather kill that bitch now when I have the chance" but more "Run you bitch, Know you will never manipulate me or Saskia ever again cause if you do, you'll loose more than those eyes". After all the name have stronger impact than the person, just look how people are treating Witchers/Geralt without even actually met them/him.

Forgot to mention this actually touch psychology as well. If it resolve around a person that you intend to help or care for, then all other aspects of that element will have a very small role. So this is actually a very logical response by Iorveth. I as well would rather focus on helping the people I care for in a time of need rather than punish people that have been a dick towards them... And not being able to do so is not of major importance as long as I manage to help said people.

Well he does kill Geralt and Zoltan if they piss him off. He is also perfectly capable of watching elven women burn alive than go help them and jeopardize his escape.

I meant personally, since we're talking about why he didn't shoot Philippa. Elven women die because of his inaction, and he orders his archers to kill Geralt and Zoltan rather than doing it himself.

Check out this video. This guy can do pretty amazing things with bow and arrows. (3 shots in less than 1,5 sec, shooting while falling off a horse, shooting while jumping, shooting 3 arrow while falling etc.

Tell me, why are you comparing this with the reality of the game?
For god's sake, this is the game was supposed to be! She used a powerfull spell on Iorveth and he couldn't stand up, take his bow and aim to shoot her.

Get off man!

(Sorry for my english)
