Hit points, armor, and damage

So at level 1 it took apx. 2 hits to kill my character, currently at lev 45 it takes 2 hits to kill my character.

What's the point of hit points or armor if the result is the same regardless of their values?

YES, I know you can use the dup bug to get phenomenal armor ratings (because it's the only way to get enough crafting materials and armor shards). But that's a bug and certainly not intended.

YES, I know (many? most?) people like big numbers flashing across their screens but such numbers are meaningless when the net result is the same regardless if the numbers are two-digit or six.

For starters you don't need to dupe armadillo mods to get loads of armour. You can find the crafting spec for them (you can google the location if you want, I won't spoil it just in case). The recipe is common and costs next to nothing to make. When you craft one it'll randomly get created anywhere from common to epic. Legendary ones may be possible but I never crafted one. You can disassemble all the white/green ones for pretty much the same amount of materials it costs to craft them and load your clothing up with blue/purple ones.

Armour does increase your survivability, especially against things like smg/rifle/shotgun that fire a lot of lower damage projectiles. It won't do anywhere near as much against sniper rifles and oversized revolvers but you don't really face a lot of them anyway. I was watching one guy testing it and with 0 armour he died in 2 shots, with 4000 armour he was dying in ~8 shots IIRC. 4000+ is easily doable at high levels. Purple armadillo's are ~240 armour. Stacking a bunch of those on your clothers + base armour from clothers + a few armour modifying perks. That'll get you there no problem even if you just want to wear clothes that look good instead of wearing random things with the most mod slots possible.
