But CDPR is an indie developer, in the truest sense of the word. They aren't beholden to a publisher or it's deadlines.

All projects that are expected to be completed are beholden to deadlines.

See the perpetual alpha stage of Star Citizen for reference as to why.

The moment this launched like this they became another EA. The moment their stonks could actually lose a billion they weren't indie. Also, the moment they contracted with the console companies, they weren't independent of squat. lol

Really? I didn't notice Cyberpunk having addictive lootbox mechanics directed at children. Must have really not paid attention.

I think the only thing left is indie, period. Leave everything else to the kiddies and the swooning complacent fans. CDPR has shown their true colors, if they regain trust, I'll be shocked, but I think gaming is a dead hobby for the most part outside of the indie rare gems now.
Well yes, the video game as an art or innovation no longer comes from the hands of these large corporations, unknown studios, which are not interested in shares on the stock market, do not have idiotic managers, etc, ... those are the only gems we can hope TT

They are still an independent development studio if you wanna get technical :p

Besides, isn't buggy games the hallmark of indie games?

Early Access is. Nothing is independent of corporate control outside of a civilian or government funded studio at this point. Management in plenty of studios has shown this, and sometimes, even those are garbage. However, they now have the most potential.

Sure, at making platformers, dating sims, Battle Royales and walking simulators.

But I hate all those genres with a passion I guess I'm outta luck since Microsoft has been gobbling up all the decent indie studios in the last few years.

do not lose the north, lootbox mechanics? Where are the boxes that are opened with a special coin that ends up being paid with money? what loot mechanics are those? If a weapon falls to the ground you can pick it up, a long weapon and a short weapon are generally what you are going to carry, if there are 20 enemies each one will drop their weapons when they die .... this is not "metal gear kojimathink", this mechanical is for fornite, Counter strike ... no forget that shit, they have serious mechanics, but a weapon that falls to the ground or a seller who gives you loot within the game and WITHIN his mechanics ... without pulling your wallet, no can be classified as "Cyberpunk having addictive lootbox mechanics directed at children" LoL

Gosh I guess you've never heard of Subverse, an Adults Only RPG
. Guess you've never heard of Lust From Beyond, which is Adults Only horror
. Also, guess you've never heard of Succubus, Adults Only action adventure, where you can even go to a hub to choose areas to hunt in..

If they can do it, CDPR can make this thing plenty better and bigger.

I have, but those are just porn games, not my thing. I'm into more classic RPGs (BG, Fallout 1&2), strategy games (civ, total war) and sometimes lootershooters like Destiny or Division.

If that's how low your standards are for anything a company does, no wonder why.

No, it's just that I hold CDPR to a mature reasonable standard, namely one where I didn't buy into hype generated by sources other than CDPR itself and got exactly the game they claimed they were making.

The bugginess of the game is entirely justified by the stresses caused by COVID quarantines, that in Poland like in the rest of Europe were much more stringent than in the US, thus mandating CDPR relying upon a untested remote working pipelines.

I voted for the "Hello Games mode" ON and make the game as close as possible to the promises even if takes years.
Reading the previous posts I can understand that it's probably a big unrealistic ask but with the income generated so far, they can certainly afford to. I'm guessing that they will want to use the new REDengine 4 that was also developed to generate some extra revenue too.
The world they have created is amazing (Bugs and technical issues aside) but I really want to be able to interact with it more. I am hoping that there is a method to their madness and that we will all get the end product we were promised. However, with the annoucement that DLC and Expansions are already on their way, I fear that we probably have got what we have got and just expect bug fixes and extra content.

With comics and an animation in the works, gives a feeling they have much bigger plans for the franchise, however, the game is a key part to it, so you'd like to think that they have a better long game than what we are seeing now and I hope that this is the case.

A few months ago a lead story designer (whatever they are called) said that the decisions you make will have consequences. So, over years they pretended that there will be a kind of net of quests, based on your decisions. You can see it in a trailer, too. The one with the voodoo boys. Looks like a Mindmap/Workflow, if you get the picture.
A bonus for the replayabillity, also based on the lifepath. But this is not true. The only "decisons" you can choose are at the end of the game, based on the sidequests you made.
That's it.
And the only reason to replay the game is a) having other romance-options, although the relationships put no extra in the game b) that you can't reset your attributes just perks, as far as I know. So if you go deep-dive netrunner/tech like me in the first run, there is no chance becoming a bloody melee, without castrating yourself.

Maybe it is a view of quality. Having 30 optional Textoptions and 2 other endings (and 1 is the same), that I can play with my first V if I save clever is not enough. For me. They painted a other picture. And I'm sure they knew that "we" would take this as a non-linear storytelling.

If they get the bugs ironed out, they could just use the same city with a completely new story and characters that's more about the open-world and gangs instead of laser focused on 1 things like the current story. With a new main character and everything.

The actions you take do have consequences to people around you. The story does still need to end up in a certain place, since the DLCs or sequel needs a starting point that they can work with.
