Arms and Armour

Arms and Armour

One of the strengths of the Witcher is its realistic take on arms and armour, through the ages these accoutrements have been used for horrifying purposes, but the beauty of their craftsmanship remains. The Kingfisher floats above the water, beauty and death in a frozen moment. Let's have a thread about it eh?

Perhaps the Witcher 3 could have a similar trailer, with Geralt showcasing his arsenal: both swords, knives, armour, bombs, potions, signs etcetera. More importantly his knowledge of his prey, when to put the arsenal to the test and when to relent.

Yes please! A video series portraying each tool that a Witcher uses, oh my, I'm getting the sweats!
The format is great too, short intro about the weapon and then a demonstration of it being used in action. Of course CDPR could go all out with such a vid in terms of style, even graphic content. Sure hope they are paying attention to this if they aren't planning something like this already.

Damn good idea, Space Marine did something similar:

Yes, weapons and armor showcase trailer would be awesome! There is so much beauty in them not too many modern things can compare.

Those vids are great! It would mean even more if they did it for the Witcher since Geralt shares a special bond with his weapons, well the swords at least.

Maybe something along the lines of this? (@1:35 mark)

Goddamn, that's a long ways from the lumber sword fights you see in Hollywood. Wicked stuff.

A history of sabre and polish sabre fencing style, by some, regarded one of the best in the world:

Yay, weapon buffs!

Thanks for the videos, very interesting! The "He's been poleaxed" comment by 'Mr. Medieval'(and if that isn't his name it should be!) there really had me think 'ouch'. Who is that? Is that from BBC Knowledge? I recognised him, seen something similar with Samurai's weapons and tactics.

I'm all for it, let Geralt show of his arms and tactics, though they did something similar in the "How to fight a witcher" trailer. :D

Not sure who the bloke is, but this is taken from a program called Instruments of Death that I watched recently. Covered some major rucks throughout history in each episode, this was a barney from the War of the Roses as I remember.

That Polish sabre-work is a thing of fucking beauty, almost a dance.

It was described as silver, shimmering circles of death surrounding a proficient sabre wielder. Entering reach zone without proper knowledge how to counter those moves equalled entering under an airscrew. Limbs were easily cut off, heads parted necks and such.

Sadly Poles were so good at it, making sabre culture something as common as breating, to noblesat least, that almost no written word remained. No one thought to write it down, dammit. Only a handfull of foreign texts stand as a testament of its glory(polish sabre school that is).

Damn that's harsh. All that training and no one kept notes apart from enemies? That is a far cry from most nations really, where the recording of every piece of worthless knowledge seemed to be pivotal. It couldn't been a strategic choice then? So the knowledge didn't land in the hands of enemies?

I suppose polish noblemen thought that this art will endure centuries, since boys were thought it from the cradle (to the grave). Possibly partitions of Poland and determination of forign powers to eradicate Poles, wipe us from the face of the earth had some role in lost heritage, not only fencing mind you.
I urge you to check how many wars Poland was involved in: polish wars. Our nation was forged and honed in war... if you look closely from around 1300 to 1900 we had almost perpetum war mobile, with few years of peace inbetween. But lets take the smaller margin and say Poland was at constant war for 400 years. Imagine. Some neighbours we had

Maybe if people who think so litle of us, or disrespect us knew a little bit of our history then they would understand how much we paid to be where we are now.

But I digress :D

Hundreds of Poles fought in the Battle of Britain keeping English skies safe, thousands more fought on land and more than demonstrated their courage, far as i'm concerned we still owe Poland. Lot of racist shit thrown around by the xenophobic newsrags here in Blighty, positively fucking shameful as far as i'm concerned.

Seconded from across the Atlantic; we'd still be subjects of the Crown if it weren't for decisive contributions by Poles to that little Rebellion we put on. Kosciuszko and Pulaski are honored with their own holidays, and everybody seems to forget Haym Solomon, who converted all that foreign aid to ready cash so the Continentals could have uniforms and supplies.

Well being Europe that's usually how the cookie crumbled back in the day. I'm also from a country that used to be in the thick of wars for centuries, be it because of politics or religion, but usually all of it boiled down to power and economy. It usually always does. I second what you said about people, that those who think too little of others or disrespect you, or any country not just Poland, are in need of some history lessons and to sample your culture. Basically, its how you fight prejudices and prove them to be silly and unjustified. I've been to Poland and loved what I saw and experienced there. I won't go into a long list, but I know that Poland has contributed with one of the best devs in the game industry. And let's not forget Mr. Sapkowski himself!
But damn how we have digressed!
