To solve the problem with "Catastrophic Failure" try to run update under windows "SAFE mode". While windows is loading, press F8 key and select "Safe mode with network".
i have tried running it in safe mode gets me passsed the setup.cpp error message but still get the Catastrophic Failure in safe mode.

no mods... fresh installation from original italian dvd v1.0i think that italian version is not censored... could be any problem related to this?now i reboot and try with safemode installation... then i will let you know the results...

Thanks for the clarification... but the next time is better not remove the thread, leave, and insert a link to another thread

Ok, I downloaded the patch from Fileplanet , and it goes through fine with verifying the registration and seems to work as it should until I get to "modifying game files. This may take up to two hours. Manuelly interupting this process will nesscitate re-intstallation of the game." And I have two tabs open "The Witcher Enhanced Edition" and The Witcher Patch Tab. In the process The Witcher Patch stops responding. Can anyone please let me know what I am doing wrong?

who have to delete my discussion? and why?
Your posts were merged into this http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=16850.0 thread. When you first posted there was already a thread titled and dealing specifically with Catastrophic failure errors that you should have added to. It seems that thread has also been merged.
And now where is http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=16850.0 ?_?______________________________________________________________________An Error Has Occurred! The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you. ______________________________________________________________________

Reminders For XP 32-Bit UsersHaving Error Code 111 during the "Modifying Game Files" portion of the Patch Installation?Disable your 3GB and PAE switches in Boot.iniCrashing immediately after starting from the launcher?Go to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Audio> Advanced (Located at the Sound Playback slider) and turn down hardware acceleration. This will prevent glorious EAX sound from being available, but it will at least allow you to play the game, until a hotfix is distributed.

They seem to have hacked the posts around again now there are 16 pages in a thread called "Error when try to run TWEE_Upgrade"

OK guys, I seem to have overcome the localized.key/Catastrophic Failure problem, but I'm not sure exactly what the issue was. I'll retrace my steps and hopefully it'll be useful. Running XP Home SP21-disabled nvidia ActiveArmor firewall2- uninstalled AVG and Comodo3-reinstalled the witcher, patched to 1.34- in msconfig, disabled all startup items and non-essential services. After rebooting, TWEE_Update now had the proper icon(was previously just generic .exe icon) and ran perfectly. Im using the english language pack and the Gamershell d/l of TWEE_update. Hope that helps.

Well, i got the same problem with update error on "data/localized.key" and solve it with few steps:1. uninstall old game ver. 1.32. clear with regedit (start > run > regedit) old regisry keys with witcher's info (including registration info)3. install the game ver. 1.04. register with old user profile and registration key5. restart windows under safe mode with network6. install update ver. 1.4

I have been waiting for 5 hours since I installed the patch, and it still has this message on. I'll illustrate with a picture.http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=asdasdey8.jpgWhat should I do? Reinstall the game, or restart the patch?

Well, i've tried safe mode and installing while connected without router (i have a wi-fi router connected to my adsl modem). It didn't help. Waltzing with a Witcher dvd-box didn't help either. Even swearing on it, so i'm out of ideas. And merging a topic with one BIG problem with other problems of installing (which are usually fixed by redownloading the file) is not a great idea, imo.

Here's a picture, I have been waiting for 5 hours now, am I supposed to wait this long?http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=asdasdey8.jpg

O_O'good, I have to throw down the system to install a patch .... why not with the 1.3 needed this? staff can give us an answer?

I assume becuse the only want people who bought the game, as opposed the pirates, be be able to upgrade.Certainly there are a few snags in their system though.
